09:45 How the automated world will work – reshaping business, societyand the global economyDaniel Hulme, CEO, Satalia, TEDx Speaker

With the advent of AI some of the most fundamental questions that humanity has ever pondered now desperately need to be answered. What does it mean to be human? How do we make ethical decisions? What should we do if we don’t have to work? How do we govern ourselves in an automated world?Daniel isn’t convinced that the global economy is resilient enough to adapt to what AI will bring in the next few decades. Today he ponders what needs to change for it to become so. In doing so he presents a framework for understanding what AI is and how it will impact business and society. Looking towards the middle of the century, he examines the drivers of innovation; how organisations are restructuring to utiliseAI technologies and how the decisions they make will impact the way the world works.

Daniel has been CEO of Satalia since 2008 and, since 2014, the Director of University College London’s Business Analytics MSc. In both roles he is committed to pushing the boundaries of data science, optimisation and AI to solve the industry’s most pressing problems. He has a Masters and Doctorate in AI from UCL, lectures in computer science and business, and is passionate about how technology can be used to govern organisations and bring positive social impact. He is the co-founder of ASI Data Science, has advisory and executive positions in several companies and holds an international Kauffman Global Entrepreneur Scholarship. In each of his eclectic roles he is an active promoter of positive entrepreneurship and technology innovation.

11:45 Leading AI driven transformation: Insights from the frontline of changeNicola Strong, Managing Director, Strong Enterprises

In Conversation with:

There are lots of people exploring AI right now, but rather less of them are actually integrating it into the workplace. That means there have been limited reference points for business leaders delivering AI-driven business transformation. Until now. Researcher and futurologist, Nicola Strong discusses the realities for AI driven change with seasoned professionals that have led and advised on transformative AI projects for major businesses and corporations. They’ll share their insights, experiences and advice for introducing AI and making it work for everyone.

Nicola is intrigued by authentic communication in digital spaces and how new technologies can enhance or frustrate our working lives. Her work explores the use of augmented reality in customer service, how gamification helps leaders lead, how robots impact the job market and the collective intelligence of groups through online tools and social media. Before launching her virtual change management consultancy,Nicola worked on installing large information systems in FTSE100 global companies, as a researcher on the Tomorrow’s Company Inquiry team at the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, and was a Co-Director of the Pierian Centre (Community Interest Company, Bristol). It’s not a choice: AI demands privacy and innovation not privacy or innovationNigel Houlden, Head of Technology Policy, Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

With new General Data Protection Regulation coming into force in May this year, it’s more important than ever that organisations respect and protect consumer privacy. Nigel, who works for the organisation driving the new rules, maintains that they should not be a barrier to business enhancing innovation and can, in fact, be a spur. He’ll demonstrate how organisations can use AI to be both innovative and compliant, and why privacy and innovation should go hand-in-hand.

Nigel has spent over 30 years working in technology across the public and private sectors and now leads technology policy for the UK’s independent authority, set up to uphold information rights in the public interest. Before joining ICO he was a senior lecturer in computing at Glyndwr University, Wales. He is a member of the BCS and has held Chartered IT Professional status for 15 years.
