7/23/2019 Aiding Budding Entrepreneurs 20131022 http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/aiding-budding-entrepreneurs-20131022 1/1 t PACE 22 I N STRTS TS MONDY, TB_ � 013 NATIONL BUE CN SRGY ( . - -·  -    · Aiding budding eltrpreneurs MICRO PPP PROGRAMME: Small businesses looking to grow id help in te fom o micocedit udin J ERMY Tan, who operates a shop selling bags in Sabah, applied fr loan through the Dynamic Small Entrepreneurs Pro gramme under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to be sed as work ing capital and to renovate his busi ness premises.  Tan was nominated and support ed by the Hawkers and Petty  Traders Association and t e local authority in is area to receive a loan to expand his business Within seven working days, he received RM8000 in microcredit A month later, his sales increased fom RM8,000 to RM4,000 a month Corporal (R) Samy Mrugan, fondly known as Sam Popeye, works as a cocont milk spplier and receives financing fom the ATM Veteran Entrepreners Pro gramme Aer more than 13 years of ser vice with the Malaysian Armed Forces, Sam began attending corses organised by Perbadanan Hal Ehwal Bekas Angkatan Tentera (Perhebat) and Tekn National (Tekn) After completing the corses, he was advised to expand his business sing microcredits Sam used the RM20,000 loan as working capital to secure the sup ply of quality cocont and his sales increased to RM5,000 per month e is determined to repay the loan within five years to ensure his riends can enoy this financing facility as well  Th e su cc es s st or ie s of en trepreneurs like Tan and Sam are the result of the Micro PPP Pro gramme initiated by the National Ble Ocean Strategy NBOS) This programme falls under the aus pices of the Public Private Part nership Unit of the Prime Min ister's Department It consists of a NB� Micro PPP Fnd and a Longhouse Homestay programme, with an al location of 300 million  Te Prime Ministers Depart ment works wit other government ministries and agencies to channel funds throgh agencies such as  Tekun, Mara, Perhebat Veteran Af firs Depatment, Malaysian Agri cultural Researc and Develop ment Institute (Mardi) and Bank Rakyat  These agencies act as imple menting bodies to process appli cations as well as to monitor the implementaion of the pro gramme  This programme sows the gov ernments commitment in elping small- and mediumscale en trepreneurs Since the Micro PPP Fund was introduced, it has been wellreceived and feedback as been positive ntil August this  year, 22,365 participants had ben efted fom the programme, with funds amonting to RM266 mil lion The conditions imposed on a borrower are simple and work through noninterest fnancing fa cilities Althogh the amount of nds r each individal is relatively small, usually below M50,000, it helps reduce the burden of bsi ness cost, and aows traders and hawkers to obtain credit to expand their businesses, which in turn in creases their incme and standard of living  The Micro PPP Fund was also sed to fund computerised feti gation fr the rain protecting struc ture of the Rock Melon Farming Proect that has been developed on vacant land owned by the Defence Ministy in Sepang, Selangor This hightech agricultural project was led by Mardi Participants inclded gradates om agriultral col leges and institutions as well as the Azam Tani Programme Paticipants fom the Azam Tani Programme who are capable, in terested and able will be roped into te workrce, wile ohers will receive a passive dividend based on the returns of the project Meanwhile, an ATM veteran has undegone intensive training n der Phase II of the Rock Melon Farming Prject and will train oth ers when the project is implement Taking Perebat business coues has helped army veterns open small businesses.
