INSTALLING THE ABSOLUTE IMAGE GALLERY Installing the Absolute Image Gallery is very straightforward. Just follow the instructions below and your new gallery administration software will be running in no time. The first thing you need to do is to decide which database you are going to use. By default, the Absolute Image Gallery comes configured to run with a Microsoft Access database. However, weve included the full Microsoft SQL Server script in case you want to use a more powerful database server. If you want to use the Absolute Image Gallery with SQL Server, please read the following sections in order to set up the database. Otherwise, you may skip to the Installing the Absolute Image Gallery in your web site section.

Setting Up the Database (MS SQL Server 2000 ONLY)

    1. The Absolute Image Gallery SQL database is included as a script file called absoluteig.sql. Save this file somewhere on your local computer. 2. From within the SQL Server Enterprise Manager, create a new database. Right-click on Database and select New database.

    3. Enter the database name absoluteig, or whatever name you may want for this new database.

    4. Click OK when finished. An empty database named absoluteig (or whatever name you chose) will be created.

    5. Now, execute the absoluteig.sql script in order to create the tables and queries in the new database. From the Tools menu of the Enterprise Manager, select SQL Server Query Analyzer.

    6. From within the Query Analyzer, open the absoluteig.sql script file. Make sure to select the absoluteig database from the database drop-down menu.

    7. Execute the script by clicking the Execute Query Button or pressing F5. If executed successfully, youll see a Query Batch Completed message at the bottom of the screen.

    8. In order to optimize the database, right click on the absoluteig database from within Enterprise Manager. Select Properties and under the Options tab, check the Auto shrink property.

  • 8

    9. It is advised to set a mainteinance plan that backups the database logs on a daily basis or to set the database recovery model to SIMPLE. Otherwise, your database log file might grow really fast and eat your disk space.

Note: When executing the script, some warnings may appear. This is a normal behavior and it is due to the fact that the database uses several variant fields. Also, if youre running the script on SQL Server 7, some syntax error messages may arise. However, this seems to not affect the applications performance and customers using this database server have reported no problems.

Now lets add a user for the database.

Adding a New User for the absoluteig Database (MS SQL Server 2000)

    1. Within the SQL Server Enterprise Manager, expand the tree down to Security.

    2. Right click on Logins and select New Login.

    3. Enter the name as absoluteig and select SQL Server authentication.

    4. Enter a unique password (please take note of your password, youll need it later).

    5. Under Database select the absoluteig database and click on the Database Access tab.

    6. Click the Permit check box for the absoluteig database then check the db_owner box under Permit In Database Role.

    7. Click OK and enter your password confirmation.

Installing the Absolute Image Gallery in Your Web Site The Absolute Image Gallery and the MS Access database are e-mailed to you in a zipped file (.zip). Follow these instructions to set-up the Absolute Image Gallery System for your site:

  • 9

    1. Create a sub-directory in your web sites root directory. This directory will house the Absolute Image Gallery Software so its a good idea to give it a name such as absoluteig. For example, if your domain is http://www.something.com, then you might create a directory called http://www.something.com/absoluteig

    2. Extract the contents of the Absolute Image Gallery zip file into this directory. The Absolute Image Gallery includes several sub-directories. You must maintain this directory structure and include these sub-directories. Note: Some hosting companies require you to place your databases in a specially assigned directory. If this is the case, youll need to alter the Absolute Image Gallery Structure. Please refer to the troubleshooting section to see how to work around this.

WARNING! : DO NOT PLACE A COPY OF OUR ZIP FILE ANYWHERE ON YOUR SITE. By doing this youll be allowing your users to download the application without owning a license. Youll be violating the License Agreement and our intellectual property rights.

    3. Now, set the permissions for the newly created absoluteig directory to allow read and write permissions, allow files to be browsed and allow scripts to be run. Turn off browser permissions on the database folder (db folder) so that users cannot download the MS Access database.

    4. If you are using the Access database then skip to step 5. Otherwise, if youre using a SQL Server Database use a text editor (Notepad will work fine), and open the databasedata.asp script file to configure it properly:

The databasedata.asp file has a similar code to this (we have colored and numbered the lines for explanation purposes):

  • 10

    6 'connection="PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;DATA SOURCE=YOUR_SERVER;DATABASE=absoluteig;USER ID=USERNAME;PASSWORD=PASSWORD;"

%> Youll note theres an apostrophe (comment) before the red line (line 6). You need to remove that apostrophe to un-comment that line and place an aposthrophe (comment) before each of the green lines (Just before the database and connection variables (Lines 2 and 3)). Then in the red line (line 6), youll need to replace YOUR_SERVER, with the name of the SQL Server where the database resides. Also youll have to replace the username and password with the corresponding username and password you previously set in order to access the server. Now the code may look like this (without the numbers):

Note: Absolute Image Gallery uses a DSN-Less connection to both the Access and SQL Server databases. DSNs are not recommended for some issues regarding performance and a recently reported bug by microsoft about retrieving default values.

    5. Start the Absolute Image Gallery System in your web browser by accessing the directory where you installed Absolute Image Gallery and login using admin as both the username and password and click the login button: e.g. http://www.yourdomain.com/absoluteig.

    6. Click on the Options button from the top menu, and click OK on the confirmation message. Youll be accessing the system configuration options.

    7. In the Licensed To field, enter your name or the name of the company that purchased and will be using the Absolute Image Gallery and the order reference ID number that you received when you purchased this application (This is your license serial number and can be found in your order confirmation e-mail).

  • 11

    8. In the Site URL field, enter the URL to your site: e.g. http://www.youdomain.com

    9. In the Application URL, enter the full URL to the Absolute Image Gallery in your site (this is the same URL you defined in step 1 and used in step 5 to access the application) : e.g. http://www.yourdomain.com/absoluteig. 10. In the username and password fields, type a new username and password in order to replace the admin login. Take note of your new username and password combination. From now on, youll need this new combination to access the system.

    11. If you want to use thumbnails of your files for easy and faster browsing, the Absolute Image Gallery uses a naming convention for the thumbnails files. The thumbnails should have the same name of the larger file with a .jpg or .gif extension and they may have an optional prefix. If you want to use this optional prefix, type it into the Thumbnail Prefix field. Any file uploaded whose name begins with this prefix, will be automatically set as a thumbnail.

    12. Scroll down the page and leave the other options with their default settings (Refer to the Options section for information on how to edit these settings).

    13. The E-mail options are used for sending e-mails from within the Absolute Image Gallery (For example, when the Users want to have their favorite files sent by e-mail):

E-mail: The e-mail address used to send e-mails from your

gallery. This must be a valid e-mail address on your SMTP Server. SMTP Server: The SMTP server you will use to send e-mails. E-mail Subject: Type a subject for the e-mails sent from your

Gallery. E-mail Signature: You may want to provide a signature for all

the e-mails sent from the gallery. Be creative and commercial; this is a wonderful way to market and promote your site.

    14. Click on the Save Settings button in order to save the changes (If you have problems, be sure that the Absolute Image Gallery directory has write permission enabled in order to be able to update the settings).

Note: For security reasons, many hosting providers do not allow write permissions to their directories. If this is your situation, the Absolute Image Gallery will give you the code to upload to update your settings. Follow these directions:

  • 12

*Copy and paste this code into a blank .txt file (use Notepad). *Rename this file to configdata.asp. *Upload this file to your Absolute Image Gallery code directory, replacing the existing default file, and your new settings will take place.

Note: If you dont want to set write permission on the Absolute Image Gallery directory, you need to know that the following directories require write permission, otherwise some errors will arise when uploading files or creating new categories:

    - gallery (and all directories beneath gallery): This folder is where the gallery files, categories and subcategories are stored

Now, lets configure the correct Include Libraries to make the Absolute Image Gallery work with your server components.

Setting the Include Libraries to Make the Absolute Image Gallery Work with Your Server Components The Absolute Image Gallery supports a wide range of third party components for tasks like uploading to the server (When you need to upload files to your gallery) sending e-mail (For allowing your site visitors to have their favorite files sent by e-mail or sending postcards) and creating thumbnails of your graphics on the fly. In order for the Absolute Image Gallery to work with the upload and e-mail components installed on your server, you must set and configure their corresponding Include Library files. An Include Library is a file that tells the Absolute Image Gallery how to work with the available component it needs to use, in order to accomplish the uploading, e-mailing and thumbnailing tasks. These Include Libraries can be found in the Include-Libraries zip file provided within the Absolute Image Gallery zip file you were sent. These Include Libraries use a naming convention in the form of incTASK.COMPONENT where TASK is either Upload , Email or Image and COMPONENT is the name of the commercial component for which that Library was developed (e.g. incUpload.ASPMail for ASPMail). To configure these Libraries all you need to do is know which components your hosting provider currently has available to you on their servers, and then

  • 13

rename the corresponding Include Library files to incEmail.asp, incUpload.asp or incImage.asp and move these files to the Absolute Image Gallery root directory (http://www.yourdomain.com/absoluteig) as is explained later. Below is a list of components supported by the Absolute Image Gallery and their corresponding Include Libraries.

    Upload Components Supported

AspSmartUpload: from ASPSmart (http://www.aspsmart.com) Library: incUpload.AspSmartUpload

ASPUpload: from Persits (http://www.persits.com) Library: incUpload.ASPUpload

SAFileUp: from SoftArtisans (http://www.softartisans.com) Library: incUpload.SAFileUp

No Component: in case no upload component is installed on the server Library: incUpload.NoComponent

Setting Up the Correct Upload Library: Once you know which upload component is installed on your server, all you need to do is rename its corresponding include library to incUpload.asp and move or upload it to the Absolute Image Gallery root directory. E.g. (http://www.yourdomain.com/absoluteig) If no upload component is installed, the incUpload.NoComponent Library will allow you to upload files to your galleries. Just rename it to incUpload.asp and move or upload it to the Absolute Image Gallery root directory.

    E-Mail Components Supported

ASPEmail: from Persits (http://www.persits.com) Library: incEmail.ASPEmail

ASPMail: from ServerObjects (http://www.serverobjects.com) Library: incEmail.ASPMail

AspSmartMail: from ASPSmart (http://www.aspsmart.com) Library: incEmail.AspSmartMail

  • 14

JMail: from Dimac (http://www.dimac.net) Library: incEmail.Jmail

SASMTPMail: from SoftArtisans (http://www.softartisans.com) Library: incEmail.SASMTPMail

CDONTS: in case no e-mail component is installed on the server, CDONTS is supported by many servers and should work for e-mailing from within the system. Library: incEmail.CDONTS

Setting Up the Correct E-Mail Library: Once you know which e-mail component is installed on your server, all you need to do is rename its corresponding Include Library to incEmail.asp and move or upload it to the Absolute Image Gallery root directory. E.g. (http://www.yourdomain.com/absoluteig) If no e-mail component is installed, the incEmail.CDONTS should work as CDONTS is widely supported by many hosting companies. Just rename it to incEmail.asp and move it to the Absolute Image Gallery root directory.

Library Configuration Examples In order to further explain the Libraries configuration, please note the following examples: Example A: Suppose that your hosting provider has the JMail e-mail component and the AspSmartUpload upload component installed. You'll have to use the incEmail.JMail and incUpload.AspSmartUpload Libraries. Rename these files to incEmail.asp and incUpload.asp respectively and move them to the Absolute Image Gallery root directory, and you are all set! Example B: Suppose that your server currently supports CDONTS but has no upload component installed. You'll have to use the IncEmail.CDONTS and incUpload.NoComponent Libraries. Rename each of these files to incEmail.asp and incUpload.asp respectively and move them to the Absolute Image Gallery root directory, and you are all set!

  • 15

Note: Many Hosting Providers support more than one upload and e-mail components. If this is your situation, just pick the ones that you think are the best and set their corresponding Include Libraries as explained. Just use ONE upload Include Library and ONE e-mail Include Library. Also, if your server supports upload and e-mail components that dont have corresponding Include Libraries provided, youll have to create your own Libraries. Just pick one of the provided Libraries and customize it to suit your components. They are very easy to customize. Please also let us know about it at [email protected] so we can provide it in future releases.

Image Components Supported Absolute Image Gallery supports two components for creating thumbnails of your images on the fly :

ASPJpeg: from Persits (http://www.persits.com) Library: incImage.ASPJpeg

ASPImage: from ServerObjects (http://www.serverobjects.com) Library: incImage.ASPImage

Setting Up the Correct Image Library: Once you know which Image component is installed on your server, all you need to do is rename its corresponding Include Library to incImage.asp and move or upload it to the Absolute Image Gallery root directory. E.g. (http://www.yourdomain.com/absoluteig) If your hosting provider does not have any image thumbnail available, you can set any of these libraries as Absolute Image Gallery will detect that no Image component is installed and disable the automatic thumbnail option. Remember that you can also use your own thumbnails and that Absolute Image Gallery comes packed with a freeware tool that will let you create thumbnails easy and quickly. Congratulations! Your Absolute Image Gallery system has been fully configured and is ready to serve your multimedia collection on the web. All you need to do now is organize your files into categories, create some thumbnails and upload them to the gallery folder of the Absolute Image Gallery, add some captions and descriptions and publish your Gallery.

  • 16

Grouping Your Files into Categories The Absolute Image Gallery virtually supports unlimited categories and subcategories. Each category is a folder which should be located inside the gallery folder of the Absolute Image Gallery. Each subcategory is also a folder that should be located underneath the parent category folder underneath the gallery folder. Each folder should contain its own files and pictures, plus an additional folder named tn which holds the categorys (or subcategorys) thumbnail files. For example, suppose that you want to have the following category in your gallery:

    - Nature: containing nature-related images, like animals and flowers On your local computer, create a folder named Nature and inside this folder, place your nature related photos. Also, inside the nature folder, create a subfolder and name it tn. Move the thumbnails of your nature pictures to this folder. If you want to go further and create 2 subcategories for the Nature folder like animals and flowers, then create 2 new subfolders inside the Nature folder named animals and flowers respectively. Create a tn subfolder for each of these new folders. Move your animal pictures into the animals subfolder and your animal thumbnails into the animals tn subfolder. Do the same with the flower pictures: move your flowers-related pictures into the flowers folder and your flowers thumbnails into the flowers tn subfolder. The Nature folder structure should look like this:

  • 17

Supposing that you have created the Nature folder on your C:\ drive, youll be grouping your files in the following way: C:\Nature

    - Nature-related files (not animals nor flowers; theyll be located in their corresponding subfolders.

    C:\Nature\tn

    - Thumbnails of the files located in the c:\nature folder C:\Nature\animals

    - Animal-related files C:\Nature\animals\tn

    - animals pictures thumbnails C:\Nature\flowers

    - Flower-related files C:\Nature\flowers\tn

    - Flowers pictures thumbnails If you want to have more subcategories, just create an additional folder for each subcategory beneath the parent subcategory folder and create another tn folder for each new subcategory.

Note: It is advised when a category name has a space, to use underscore symbol instead of the space for its folder name. For example: For an animals subcategory named fishes and sea

  • 18

The folder name should be: C:\Nature\animals\fishes_and_sea Also, remember to create a tn subfolder to hold this subcategorys thumbnails: C:\Nature\animals\fishes_and_sea\tn

Thumbnails It is not necessary to have thumbnails for your images, but if you have thumbnails of the files and you want to display these files in your Gallery for easier browsing, youll have to locate the thumbnail files inside the tn folder of each category. Also, you should use a naming convention for your thumbnails in the form of: PrefixFilename.Extension where Prefix is an optional text string like tn, small or mini- to differentiate the thumbnail from the larger image. Filename is the name of the larger file. Extension is either gif or jpg. For example: If you have a picture named sunflower.jpg and you want to create a thumbnail file for this image, it might be named mini-sunflower.jpg or smallsunflower.jpg or tnsunflower.jpg Move this thumbnail file into the tn folder of its appropiate category (i.e. c:\nature\flowers\tn)

Note: The Mihov Resizer freeware utility included with the Absolute Image Gallery, creates thumbnails of your graphic files with a mini- prefix. Also, the Absolute Image Gallery by default comes configured to use this prefix (i.e. mini-) with the thumbnail files. If you want to use another prefix (or no prefix at all), you can change it in the Options menu of the Absolute Image Gallery in the Thumbnail Prefix field.

  • 19

Please remember that Thumbnails should have an optional prefix, the same name as the larger file, and they must have the .gif or .jpg extension.

Image Components and Thumbnails on the Fly If your hosting provider has the ASPJpeg or ASPImage component installed, then no thumbnail images are required for your JPG, BMP and PNG files as they can be created on the fly by the Absolute Image Gallery. To enable this option, log into the Absolute Image Gallery administration, click on the Options button from the top menu and scroll to the Image Component field. Absolute Image Gallery will look for those componets (ASPImage and ASPJpeg), and if any of them, is installed, it will present you with the following options:

    - Create Thumbnail Files on the Fly: check this option if you want the Absolute Image Gallery to create temporary thumbnails of the larger files as they are browsed. No additional disk space is necessary, but this option will consume more server resources as each time that a file is requested, a thumbnail is created in the servers memory.

    - Save Created Thumbnails for faster access: If your Gallery folder

has write permission and the Create Thumbnail files on the Fly option is checked, you may want to check this option. Once a thumbnail has been generated, it will be saved to the appropriate thumbnail directory and no additional server resources will be required.

    - Max Thumbnail Size: select the maximum size in pixels for an image.

By default 120 Pixels are set.

    - Max Postcard Size : select the maximum size in pixels for an image for sending it as a postcard. By default 280 pixels are set.

Note: ASPJpeg and ASPImage are both powerful image manipulation components. For more information visit the following URLs : http://www.aspjpeg.com http://www.serverobjects.com

  • 20

Uploading Your Categories and Files If you have a large amount of files, categories and subcategories and theyre organized as previously explained (into folders with subfolders and thumbnails), you can proceed to upload your files into your Gallery. To do this, simply upload the categories folders and subfolders into the gallery folder of the Absolute Image Gallery using your favorite FTP software application. With the Nature category example, all you have to do is upload this folder and its contents into the gallery folder of the Absolute Image Gallery.

Note: You can also create categories and subcategories and upload files from within the application. However, FTP is recommended if you have a large amount of files and categories. All the files should be uploaded into the gallery folder of the Absolute Image Gallery, otherwise, the files wont be available in your Gallery.

Building the Gallery Index Once you have finished uploading your files to the gallery folder, youll need to log into the Absolute Image Gallery administration and click the Rebuild button from the top menu. By clicking this option, the Absolute Image Gallery will create a database of your files for easy browsing, and your files will be available in your Gallery.

Note: Youre required to click the REBUILD option everytime you add or delete files or categories. This is the way the Absolute Image Gallery knows that something has changed and that the Gallery should be updated.

Browsing Your Gallery After rebuilding the gallery index, youll be able to browse your Gallery. To do so, just go to your site at the following URL: http://www.yoursite.com/absoluteig/gallery.asp

    QUICK START GUIDE

    1. Configuration

The first thing you must do when using the Absolute Image Gallery for the first time is to set your configuration settings as explained in the preceding chapters: ! Set the Absolute Image Gallery to work with your selected

database (MS Access or SQL Server): Edit the databasedata.asp file to select the proper connection string.

! Log into the Absolute Image Gallery at http://www.yoursite.com/absoluteig using the default administrator username and password (admin/admin).

! Click on the OPTIONS button from the top menu and edit the default administrator with your own information (select a new username and password).

! Set the appropiate Include Libraries to allow the Absolute

Image Gallery to upload files to your Gallery and send e-mails from within the application (create an incUpload.asp and incEmail.asp files from the Libraries zip file and move them to the Absolute Image Gallery root directory).

! Group your Gallery files into folders with their

corresponding category name. Add a tn subfolder for each category to store your thumbnails.

! If a category contains a space symbol, it should be

replaced with an underscore symbol in its corresponding folder name. (i.e. for a category named vintage photos, the folder should be named vintage_photos.

! If no image component is installed on your server, you

! Indexing : Set the default status for new files found during the

    rebuilding process.

FILE TYPES SUPPORTED The Absolute Image Gallery is a powerful digital assets administration system. Its perfect for creating not only picture galleries, but full blown multimedia galleries. For this reason, the Absolute Image Gallery supports a wide range of file types and you can register and add new file types. File types are stored inside the Filetypes folder of the Absolute Image Gallery. Theyre comprised of two files: a .gif file containing a default thumbnail for the file and a .txt file containing the code to display the file in a browser. For example: The .gif file type is supported by the Absolute Image Gallery. If you look at the Filetypes folder, youll find a file named gif.gif and a text file named gif.txt The gif.gif file is the default thumbnail of .gif files. This file will be displayed when no thumbnails are found for any .gif in the Gallery. Below is a copy of the .gif default thumbnail (gif.gif):

The gif.txt file, contains the HTML code to display the larger file. If you open it with a text editor, youll find the following HTML code:

The tag is an HTML tag used for displaying images. Also included is a src parameter which is passed as a string: $$URL$$.

  • 36

When the Absolute Image Gallery needs to display a GIF file, it will load this code and replace the $$URL$$ text with the corresponding text of the .gif file. Many file types are currently supported and you can add new files by just creating a default thumbnail with a .gif extension and saving its code into a text file with the $$URL$$ text instead of the path to the file. For example, for supporting Flash files in the Absolute Image Gallery, youll find that theres a SWF.gif file which is the default thumbnail for Shockwave files (the compiled Flash format).

And then theres a SWF.txt file containing the following code: Which is the HTML code for displaying a Flash Movie on an HTML page (note the use of $$URL$$ instead of the path to the Flash file. So, you can add support for an unlimited number of file types by just creating these 2 files: a default thumbnail and a code file.

Note: You can modify the default thumbnail files and create your own. All you have to do is replace the default thumbnails in the Filetypes folder with your files. Absolute Image Gallery has a thumbnail and code named UNKNOWN (unknown.gif and unknown.txt). This thumbnail is displayed when an unknown file type is requested an theres no default thumbnail.

  • 37

The unknow.txt code is just a link to the file. These files should not be deleted.

THE IMAGE RESIZER (FREEWARE UTILITY) The Absolute Image Gallery includes a freeware utility for creating thumbnails of your graphic files. This utlity is the MIHOV IMAGE RESIZER. For more information on the utility, please check the Mihas utilities page at: http://www.imageresizer.com/. Please note that Xigla Software is not related in any way with the developers of this utility. Its being distributed free of charge with the Absolute Image Gallery as a helpful option for creating thumbnails of your graphic files. The Image Resizer utility is very easy to use. Just select the tab corresponding to the file type for which you want to generate thumbnails, select a maximum size (in pixels, 120 is recommended) and click the resize button. The thumbnails will be generated with the same name as the larger file and the prefix mini-. For example, starting with a file named water.jpg, after being processed by the utility, youll get a thumbnail named mini-water.jpg in the same folder where water.jpg is located. Now, move the newly-created thumbnails to the corresponding tn folder and your thumbnails are ready.

TROUBLESHOOTING 1) Q: I've uploaded all the files to my site and maintained the

directory structure. However, I'm getting an error. Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005' Operation must use an updateable query. A: This error is due to write permission restrictions on the database : your database is currently located on a folder with no write permissions. Many hosting companies provide their users with a special directory in which to place their databases.

  • 38

To solve the problem, move the database to the assigned directory (often named databases and located at the root of your sitePlease check this with your host provider). With a text editor, open the file named databasedata.asp in your Absolute Image Gallery root directory. Theres a variable named database. Change the value of this variable to reflect the new database location. I.e., the current location is db/absoluteig.mdb. If your database directory is named databases and is located off the root of your site, you should change the value of this variable to: database=../databases/absoluteig.mdb

Another way to solve the problem is to create a DSN to the database located in a directory with write permission.

    2) Q: Id like to create a DSN to the database, what do I have to do?

A: Place the database in your assigned database directory. Your hosting company should provide you with a control panel to set DSNs or they will be able to set them for you. Select a name for the DSN (e.g. absolutels). With a text editor, edit the configdata.asp file in the following way: In the corresponding connection (Access or SQL Server), replace the value of the connection variable with the name of the DSN: connection=DSNNAME You must enclose the DSN Name in double quotes () Please note that DSNs are really slow compared to the default DSN-Less connection of the application. It is not recommended to use a DSN connection. Some problem have been reported with DSNs

    3) Q: Im trying to configure the Absolute Image Gallery from the

Options menu. However, every time I press the Save Settings button I get an error message saying that the directory has no write permission and that I must create and upload a file. A: Some hosting companies dont allow write permissions due to

  • 39

security restrictions. If thats your situation, youll have to manually configure your Absolute Image Gallery and upload the changed configdata.asp file to your site. To do this, copy and paste the code provided by the Absolute Image Gallery into a blank .txt file, rename this file to configdata.asp and upload it to your Absolute Image Gallery root directory. Youll have to do this every time you want to make a change to the application settings.

    4) Q: I have several components supported by the Absolute Image

Gallery, which Include Libraries do I have to set in the Absolute Image Gallery directory? A: You must configure only one Include Library for each of the upload and e-mailing tasks. Select the components that youd like the Absolute Image Gallery to work with and configure its corresponding upload and Include Libraries as described in the installation instructions

    5) Q: My server doesnt have any of the components that Absolute

Image Gallery currently supports installed, what can I do? A: For uploading files to the Gallery, you should use the incUpload.NoComponent library. Just rename this file to incUpload.asp and move it to the root directory of your Absolute Image Gallery. For e-mailing, most hosting providers support CDONTS. You should try using the incEmail.CDONTS Library. Rename this file to incEmail.asp and move it to the root directory of your Absolute Image Gallery. If CDONTS is not supported, youll need to create your own incEmail.asp file or you wont be able to provide the Send Favorite Files By E-mail option and will have to disable this option from the Options menu.

    6) Q: After uploading a file to the Gallery, I get an error, why?

A: Check that the gallery folder and subfolders in the Absolute Image Gallery directory have write permission enabled. These folders are used for storing the files of your Gallery. Also, make sure that you are using an Include Library for uploading. Check if theres a file named incUpload.asp in your Absolute Image Gallery and that it is compatible with the component previously installed on your server.

  • 40

    7) Q: After creating a category, I get an error, why?

A: When creating categories, the Absolute Image Gallery must create a folder with the same name of the category in the gallery folder. Make sure that the gallery folder has write permission enabled. Otherwise these folders wont be created. Also, make sure to use valid characters. Symbols like *,.[] !? are not supported.

    8) Q: I want to rename a category, how can I do this?

A: As each category is, in fact, a subdirectory under the gallery folder, the categories cannot be renamed from within the application once theyve been created. To rename a category, use your favorite FTP software, rename the subdirectory and rebuild the Gallery Index.

    9) Q: Ive correctly setup the application, Include Libraries and

write permissions, however I still get an error message when uploading or sending e-mail. Is the Include Library outdated? A: Components are developed by other companies which are not related in any way to Xigla Software. With time, these components may get upgraded and new versions will be released often requiring updates to the ASP code within an Include Library to work with the new component. It is very difficult for us to track when components are updated by these companies. If you find that your Include Library no longer supports your component, please let us know so that we can update the Upload or E-mail Library accordingly.

    10) Q: I dont like the music for the postcards. How can I change it

or add my own titles ? A: The folder postcardmusic holds the midi files available for your postcards, you can add new titles to your Absolute Image Gallery by just placing the corresponding midi files in this folder. Also, make sure to use an underscore instead of a space for the music files, and be sure that they are midi files.

    11) Q: I Dont have any Image component installed and I dont see

    any incIMage.NoComponent library to conifgure

  • 41

A: You can set any of the image libraries as Absolute Image Gallery will immediately detect that theres no image component installed and therefore it will not make use of the image component. Absolute Image Gallery supports both ASPJpeg and ASPImage, for more information, please check the following URLS : http://www.aspjpeg.com http://www.serverobjects.com

    12) Q: I have the ASPJpeg component; what can the Absolute Image Gallery do with it? A: If the component is installed, the Absolute Image Gallery will recognize it and allow you to create thumbnails on the fly and save the generated files to your categories folder. In this way, you dont have to worry about creating thumbnails for your JPG Files. Theyll be created on the fly and saved to the Gallery for faster retrieval. For more information on the ASPJpeg component, visit http://www.aspjpeg.com.
