// CONCEPT STATEMENT

When renovating the second floor west wing of the Michigan State University main library the design will be focused upon modernizing the library so that the space provided a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff and faculty to work, study and learn. By categorizing the space into specific task areas, such as collaborative study or computer study, through a color scheme that encourages thought and productivity. The designers focused on improving the traffic patters of the spaces so the furniture will be modular for flexibility both for present and future needs. With contemporary design style and the latest technology and space planning, the renovated design of the second floor west wing will capture the proud Spartan sprit.

To create private living space and retail space, named Fiets and Eats, for Mr. and Mrs. Soso. These spaces will each reflect and encourage each of Soso’s passions: cooking and bicycling. Each space has adopted Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines to accommodate all guests, including Mr. Soso’s dad, who has limited mobility. Along with meeting ADA codes, both residential and commercial spaces demonstrate ecological and sustainable practices. The overall design will provide a home and community center for personal connection with the local Amsterdam culture.

To design a signature chandelier in the W Chicago Lakeshore Hotel Ballroom that will reflect the simplistic and contemporary design of the surrounding space while using innovative, energy efficient OLED lights. Caromlux captures an artistic appeal both while in use and idle through its unique interlacing form which was inspired by the hanging configuration of the hammock in areal yoga. Caromlux comprehensively is a functional and decorative chandelier that meets the requirements of the space and provides an ingenious design to the W Hotel’s aesthetic.

The new fitness facility located within the west wing of the Intramural (IM) Sports Circle will become the premier location for the physical

health and wellness of all students, staff and faculty of Michigan State University. An open concept layout with an aesthetically-pleasing and

space-efficient design, will cater to both casual fitness enthusiasts and serious athletes. The space will have a staircase focal point that will allow for a view

of all three floors, producing a free flowing atmosphere. The basement will provide a large weight room that features a full sized boxing ring and boxing bags for a unique workout experience. As a user enters the space on the first floor, they will encounter a service desk where all fitness inquires and access management will occur. Upon entering the fitness facility, a lounge will serve as a resting and socialization area. Also on the first floor, will be two group

exercise rooms that will be used for yoga, aerobics, or any other type of fitness activity. The top floor will provide a variety of cardio machines that will meet the different needs of all users as well as a personal preparation area

for free weight exercises or stretching. Durability and sustainability will be considered in the selection of materials for the sleek, contemporary

furniture. Proper ADA requirements and building preservation codes will also be utilized within the design. With a fresh and motivating color scheme, users will feel enthused for their workout. This fitness renovation of the IM

Sports Circle west wing will create a healthy cul ture by serving as a flexible and functional environment where users can benefit from a variety of

equipment for their personal fitness.

A A The mission for the former Belle Isle Zoo is to create a park with multi-use spaces for diverse types of

outdoor adventure activities, unique lodging, and interactive learning experiences. The design will ensure

that the park will be enjoyed by users of all ages and abilities by upholding Universal Design Principles and

ADA guidelines. The park will reflect the historic qualities of Belle Isle through the design and by repurposing

as much as possible of the existing zoo structures. The park will be integrated into the local landscape,

providing flexibility for varied activities throughout the seasons. The following programming process will focus

upon the Amphitheatre building within the park. The overall renovation project will seek to maximize user

potential through the design and ultimately create a center of activity in the city of Detroit.

The renovation project’s inspiration is based on combining the natural landscape of Belle Isle with early era design from Detroit, Michigan. Since Belle Isle has such a rich history with the city of Detroit we wanted our design to emulate that history. The design will use a combination of uniquely styled furniture pieces with colors inspired by the art deco age, like a bright turquoise and a deep gold. Along with the natural aspect, the design will be light and fresh, but it will also have the strong lines and interesting shapes from the 1920’s Detroit architectural style.

To include equal opportunities for families and the elderly to use the park for relaxation and passive nature activities while creating an active area for social and athletic environment for the younger users. To establish a partnership with local youth organizations so that they can have opportunities to experience and explore the outdoors through day camps and overnight stays in specialized lodging. To provide outdoor adventure activities that are designed around the natural landscape, allowing for seasonal versatility so that the park can be open all year round. To reflect the historic characteristics of Belle Isle and the city of Detroit both in the design aesthetics and in cultural learning experiences. To preserve the original zoo structures that are stable enough to be renovated, while using sustainable materials for any additions to the buildings. To create several spaces where overnight and weekend guests can enjoy a unique lodging experience and nighttime activities.

Building Narrative The Amphitheatre Building, adjacent to the entrance building, will house public restrooms for the park as well as a multi-purpose space, nurses' station and office space for park employees. The multi-purpose space will be great for community events, corporate meetings, brunches, etc. There is a storage area within the Amphitheatre Building where chairs and tables can be stored in able to mix and match furniture pieces for a variety of set-ups. This space could also be utilized as a space where informational films could be watched by youth organizations before exploring the park. On the upper level will be office space where employees such as IT services and maintenance managers have a place to organize schedules and keep files.

In 2015 it is projected that 2,204,500 United States citizens will travel domestically and internationally, 487,833 of those people flying for business affairs and 1,716,667 people flying for leisure (U.S. Travel Association). With the travel industry growing each year, airports must consistently upgrade their facilities to support a variety of travelers. The San Francisco International Airport has established a “REACH Program (Revenue Enhancement and Customer Hospitality) which guide’s the airports employees and staff through the traveler experience, growth facilitation, improvement strategies and operational efficiency” (Gensler). With this new vision, the San Francisco Airport will develop new spaces that cater to the business, tech-savvy and leisure traveler’s preferences while also improving the wellbeing of all space occupants. The TOUCHDOWN lounge will be a multi-purpose lounge space that features products and services such as, an on-the-go retail and dining area, private conference rooms, work and communication stations, concierge services and all-access internet and technology. Inspired by the sharp angles of airplane wings, the space will direct users through the six zones that make up the 2,500 sqft. area. Each zone creates a unique solution for travelers to “touchdown” before, in-between or after travel to collaborate, focus or unwind by utilizing the multiple available amenities with access to electrical and USB outlets. By allowing for spaces with personalization ad customization options, there will be a progressive work and leisure environment possibility. An interior environment is an extension of who people are and thus has a high impact upon health, safety and welfare. By responding to the assorted needs and aspirations of people, knowledge of occupation and appropriate design, an atmosphere offer a sense of belonging, thereby positively affecting an individuals, a families or communities wellbeing. The intuitive design of each zone within the overall lounge will support occupant’s psychological wellbeing by offering areas that express calm and comfort through textures, materials, color, lighting and views. The TOUGHDOWN lounge will apply proper ADA guidelines for users that need to be assisted due to a disability. Accommodating for wide walkways can allow for increased function, movement and exploration of the lounge’s zones. A sustainable community focuses on human interactions, needs and quality of life while maintaining environmental awareness. It is important for users to remain healthy while in contact with the interior area and thus sustainable practices such as, zero VOC finishes and natural ventilation will be installed throughout the spaces. These accessible codes and ecological practices will ensure the space is safe and healthy for all occupants well-being. With the large amount of Americans travelling every year, work has expanded from the traditional office to places of travel. The airport is transforming to meet cultural, social, psychological and environmental standards. The TOUCHDOWN lounge will fulfill the San Francisco Airport’s REACH vision by producing a comfortable and positively impactful environment where users, whether they are traveling for business or leisure, will experience productivity, security and vitality, which together will contribute to the preservation and improvement of user’s entire wellbeing.

C o n ce p t S t a t e m e n t // The mission of this project is to create a space that will be used as a comedy club. Along with a full service restaurant and bar, the Grand Stand design will supply a high-energy atmosphere for comedic entertainment. The design of the Temple Building located in the historic district of Old Town Lansing, Michigan will be revitalized by providing the public with a comfortable, social and expressive environment. As the Old Town community has emerged in the last twenty years as a center of arts and culture, it is reasonable that the new building design will contribute to the performing art of comedy. The inspiration behind the design for The Grand Stand is a sparkler. The spontaneous, angular lines will be applied to the buildings floor plan and decorative elements. Asymmetrical geometry will influence the space planning of the different areas, along with the architectural elements. The Grand Stand design will provide a lively and dynamic interior environment, though artful lighting and an inspiring color scheme of deep purple, wistful blue and flame yellow, that will allow for guests to feel welcome to relax and laugh. The comprehensive design will continuously apply the latest sustainable practices throughout the entire programming, design, and construction phases of the project. The building will be improved

to meet universal design principles and codes to ensure that users of all ages and abilities may have appropriate access to the hospitality facilities and entertainment. Additionally, the historic integrity of the building will be kept in pristine condition so that the culture of the surrounding environment may be preserved. Overall, the Temple building will be transformed into a space that will capture the Old Town Lansing spirit and pride through a unique comedy club facility. REVITALIZE LAUGH ENERGY IGNITE

The above collection of projects reflect a variety of elements, sustainable, innovative, and streamlined

design created by multiple software programs such as, AutoCAD, SketchUP, Shaderlight and Photoshop.

They display a range of design skills, those being preliminary design research and programming, space

planning, furniture and finishes selections and both computer and hand rendering. As a future Interior

Designer, I strive to consistently improve my knowledge and experiences. I am eager to learn new skills and
