Reports
All parents and carers should now have received their child’s end of year report. As well as the report, there
will be a piece of your child’s work, an information leaflet about the assessment process and a feedback form.
We would be really grateful for your feedback – please hand forms to the office or send in via your child.
Celebration of work/meet the teacher evening
Next Wednesday (18th) we will hold our annual Celebration of work and meet the teacher evening, between
5pm and 6pm (please note that parents and carers of children in year 6, or wanting to meet our year 6
teachers, are invited to come in between 3.30pm – 4.30pm). This is an opportunity for parents/carers to come
to school with their child(ren) to look at this year’s books and also go to their child’s new classroom and meet
the teacher(s). Please note that the evening provides an opportunity for a review of work and general
introduction rather than an individual consultation. If you would like an individual meeting with your child’s
class teacher, please make an appointment with them directly.
Please note, the majority of books will be sent home over the coming days and we would be grateful if your
child could bring a carrier bag to school to transport them. A number of books will be kept at school until the
end of the autumn term for moderation purposes and will be returned in January.
Diamond Jubilee Photos
At the end of the newsletter, we have put together a number of photos from our Diamond Jubilee
celebrations; we hope you enjoy looking through them.
Hampshire CAMHS Great Big Bunting Off!
Last week some of our year four children attended ‘The Great Big Bunting Off’ as part of Hampshire CAMHS’
‘Everybody’ Campaign; a celebration of individuality and difference. The bunting created allowed people to
express their individuality and share opinions, thoughts and messages to the world through their individual
flags. CAMHS received 21,880 flags which equates to 3.26 miles!!!! Although the Guinness World Record was
not broken, it was a fantastic attempt which involved many thousands of young people. A huge thank you to
everyone involved - Hampshire CAMHS.
Friends Against Malaria
Libi, Isla, Phoebe and Neve in Y5 are very passionate about the charity Friends Against Malaria. We are trying
to raise money in order to purchase bed nets to protect families from malaria. Malaria is an illness caused by a
parasite on a mosquito. As a group we are doing a bake sale at school on Monday 16th July to carry out our
ambition. We would really appreciate it if you could stop off at our bake sale in the playground after school
and we would be thrilled if you could bake or buy a cake for us to sell. Every penny we raise will go towards
our charity. A bed net in Africa costs as much as an ice cream in England but can save a whole family’s lives.
Please help us as people living in malaria infested countries don’t deserve to die just because they can’t afford
treatment. Thank you.
Shooting Stars
There were no shooting stars awarded last week due to our Jubilee celebrations.
Sport
Our updated sports premium funding information is now on our website, along with
a list of all the coaching opportunities and tournaments that the children have been
involved in this year.
Year Group Information
Year R
We have had a very busy week preparing for our final assembly. The children have worked very hard and we
hope you all enjoyed watching it. We walked to the post box on Wednesday to send our postcards from the
Aquarium. Hopefully some of them should start arriving over the next few days. Thank you for all of the
stamps. We will be sending home PE kits at the beginning of next week, and learning journals will be sent
home towards the end of the week. Please can we ask for any reading books and library books to be
returned by Tuesday 17th July. Thank you.
Year 1
This week we have been completing our Scott of the Antarctic topic by sequencing the key events of his
expedition, discussing whether we would undertake the journey ourselves and if so, what would we need to
take with us. Finally, we designed our own commemorative stamps to show the three key facts we have
learnt. In Science we have learnt about the different ways that seeds are dispersed and we used the ipads to
write and debug algorithms; some of them were really tricky. Please can we ask for any reading books and
library books to be returned by Tuesday 17th July as we need to carry out our annual stock take. Thank you.
Year 2
We have had another fantastic week in Year 2 which ended with our wonderful trip to Southsea. The
children were absolutely brilliant on the trip and told us that they loved watching the hovercraft and finding
treasures on the beach the best. Sorry for all the rocks, pebbles and shells they came home with. Thank
you to all of the parents who helped out and to those of you who volunteered but didn’t come. We really
appreciate all of your support.
Marwell Zoo Animal Adoption
My name is Samuel Symons. I’m in Year 6 and when I was in Year 4 I organised Weeke Wildlife Day where
the children came dressed as animals and brought in a small donation for Marwell Zoo. We also enjoyed an
excellent talk from Mr Read, an ex-head zoo keeper at Marwell Zoo. We successfully raised £300 for Marwell
Zoo. On Wednesday 18th July, Marwell Zoo are coming back to talk to us about adopting some of the zoo
animals. They will tell us about how the money will be spent on their work on conservation of the animals and
their habitats. It will cost each year group £55 to be able to sponsor an animal. I am really passionate about
wildlife and about conservation so I would be really grateful if you could bring in a small donation on
Wednesday to make this happen. Thank you for supporting this. Samuel Symons.
Attendance
Congratulations to Yew and Willow Classes who had the best attendance in EYFS/KS1 both with 98.7% and
Elm Class with the best attendance in KS2 with 99.3%
Other classes with good attendance were Ash Class (97.4%), Rowan Class (98.0%), Larch Class (97.7%),
Cherry Class (98.7%) and Pine Class (97.3%). Well done everyone.

Year 3
This week the children have been enjoying putting their striking and fielding skills to good use in rounders
matches. They have been inferring the character of Daedalus from story of Icarus and Daedalus and have
been describing him using this inference e.g. Daedalus is creative as he uses sea gull feathers and materials
around him to create wings. In maths the children have been estimating and measuring units of
measurement. This week is the last week of set homework – thank you for supporting your children with this
throughout the year.
Year 4
We would like to thank all of the children in Year 4 for producing such amazing pieces of art to celebrate the
Diamond Jubilee last week. Dan mesmerised the audience when he performed a piece of music that he had
composed by himself called ‘Classmates’. This week during our design technology sessions, children have
designed and started making their moving toys (with a rainforest theme). They have learnt about the
different materials and components needed to make their toys move, including the effect that different types
of cams, have on movement. In maths, both classes have taken part in a variety of sporting activities and will
be using the data they collected to make pictograms, bar charts and line graphs. Our tennis lessons at the
Tennis and Squash Club have now come to an end. We would like to thank all of you who gave up your time
to escort children to and from the club. We would like to remind you that there is a Year 4 assembly at 9am
on Tuesday, next week.
Year 5
What an amazing Jubilee celebration we enjoyed last week! Thanks you so much to all parents for sending in
drum making materials, T-shirts, lovely fancy dress for Thursday and all the other ways you have supported
your children and us this last week, and over the whole year. This week we’ve discovered the phases of the
moon, using Oreo cookies in science, different methods for division and multiplication, a little bit of how to
play cricket in PE and continued to explore refugees in our literacy lessons. We’ve managed to fit in a sneak
preview of the year 6 performance, and create images of Mongolia in the school grounds using clever angles
and photography.
Year 6
This week we have been busy putting the final touches to our end of year performance of Oliver. We are
really looking forward to sharing the performance with you next week (see newsletter for timings).
Alongside this we have been working on our Leaver’s Performance which will be on the last day of term.
We will be inviting the children to attend a small celebration the field from 1:30 till 3:00 next Thursday
afternoon. They are welcome to bring a change of clothes, we will provide the drinks and cake!

Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
Last week we held celebrations to mark our 60th year and gave the opportunity for those involved with the school in our
early years to return to the school and be part of our celebration. We were overwhelmed by the number of past
pupils/staff etc. who got in touch, with over 40 alumni coming in on Friday including a number of pupils and staff who
were at the school in 1957.
During Creative Arts Week, the children created some fantastic pieces of work, including bunting; tie-dye t-shirts, clay
figures and giant installations. Each year group explored an artist from a decade of the school’s history. We are so proud
of the displays around the school which look magnificent.
Our historical enquiry project has enabled the children to discover what life was like at Weeke ‘in the olden days’;
visitors to our school have really enhanced children’s learning and helped bring the past to life. Their work was displayed
as part of the jubilee celebrations for parents and visitors to view.
Mrs Sanjar has worked with the children at Weeke to create a mural that represents our school values; the school’s
aspirations for the children, in celebration of our Diamond Jubilee. Our school values – Kindness, Respect, Community,
Excellence and Responsibility - are an integral part of Weeke Primary School.
Each of the 60 leaf designs are based on the artwork created by 30 Key Stage 2 children and the shape of the leaves
found in the school grounds. An additional leaf will be added to represent every forthcoming year of Weeke. The journey
of each leaf signifies the individual path each of our children take and their achievements as they flourish, year on year.
Mrs Sanjar has spent a number of hours transferring their designs to our main entrance; we are incredibly grateful for all
of her efforts and work.
Dan Morris, in Year 4, is an exceptionally talented musician. We were thrilled when he agreed to create a piece of music
dedicated to our school’s Diamond Jubilee. Dan created a piece of music using some of his favourite pieces of music; he
called it ‘Classmates’ reflecting the fact that whilst many things change in a school the relationships that we build stand
the test of time.
Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
We have had such wonderful feedback from our alumni:
“The children were all very friendly and engaging, even with the stifling but glorious weather that day!
It was wonderful to be able to catch up with a few old friends who I had not seen in almost five decades! I was able to
add to my already cherished memories of Weeke Primary School.”
“The child playing the music before the unveiling of the artwork on the wall was absolutely astounding.”
“It was lovely to revisit the school after so many years and also to see it from an adult's view rather than a child's”
“It was so nice to relive my earlier days and see still familiar parts of the school alongside all the improvements. And I got
to meet my former teacher, Mr Tipple. Happy memories of times gone by and a lovely event. Thank you!”
Thank you to all our parents and visitors for coming to the school; for sharing your memories with us; sharing photos
and memorabilia. You all really helped to make our Jubilee Celebrations special; we will remember this for years to
come.
