The conference which was held on the 6th and 7th of August, 2019, at the University Main Library Conference hall, focused on intensifying town and gown synergy through research that has industry input. The Chief host and Vice-Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, in his welcome address, noted that Industry- Academia synergy stems from the need to mainstream sustainable development goals in higher education in Nigeria, a narrative, which according to him, has been strengthened by t h e establishment of the Igbinedion University Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Development G o a l s (IUCCCSDG)- the first of its kind in any University in Nigeria. Prof. Ezemonye, further noted that, industry-academia collaboration remains a critical component of efficient national innovation development which is germane for skill development and knowledge exchange for the development of entrepreneurial growth in Nigeria. In his Keynote address, the Director General, National Office for Technology Transfer and Acquisition (NOTAP), Dr. Azumi Ibrahim, observed that there is need to build a bridge through which academic research and development efforts can be moved to the market place. According to him, the private sector or industry can only come to partner with the academia when they are assured that the inventions in the Universities are protected by intellectual property laws which will guarantee monopolization and commercialization. Dr. Azumi noted sadly that, there is weak culture of intellectual property protection in the Academia which has led to academia phobia among industry actors. In the paper presentations session, which was chaired by former Director General, Energy Council of Nigeria, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, the audience were treated to papers presented by actors from the industry and the academia among whom was: M.S Dorathy Bassey former deputy Director Department of Petroleum Resources, Lagos and many others. adequate funding in order to ensure quality teaching and research in Pharmacology in Nigerian Universities, as the major problem confronting the discipline, according to him, is mainly having the right equipment. To buttress his point, he affirmed that it is rather shameful that no Nigerian University has a kymograph for recording vascular work and that even in the simple In-V i t ro sys tem; complex Pharmacological behavior

will be missed by studying drug actions only at the chemical level. In his remark, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, described the Inaugural lecturer as an accomplished and consummate academic who has made significant contributions to Pharmacology through research and teaching.
