Introductory courses in electricity, electric motors, and theory of refrigeration are included. Students are required to provide their own basic tools, and to take a national exit exam which will give passing students national recognition on an A.R.I. (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute) National Registry, which goes to Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning employers. To complete an A.A.S., students must meet the General Requirements on page 109. In addition, students should select General Education electives (*) from those listed on page 110. Energy Audit(Associate in Applied Science) Plan 24RO

The Energy Audit program prepares students for employmentin the areas of energy audit and insulation of residential andcommercial buildings. Students will acquire skills in safety,HVAC principles, soldering and brazing, mechanical andelectrical troubleshooting, refrigerant handling, the use ofrefrigerant gauges, electrical test equipment, and blower door testing.

The Energy Audit curriculum is aligned with the educationalstandards of Residential Energy Services Network(RESNET®) and the Illinois Occupational Skill Standards forHVACR. HET courses in A/C split-systems, residentialHVAC, Resnet exam preparation, building insulation, energyauditing, air movement and ventilation, HVACR Codes, EPAand NATE certification preparation, Carpentry, and a HETcapstone course meet re-certification requirements for NATE.

The Energy Audit program is a partner of the ResidentialEnergy Services Network (RESNET®). Upon successfulcompletion of second semester courses, students will qualifyto sit for the Industry Competency Examination (ICE), theNorth American Technician Excellence (NATE) exam, or theRESNET® exam which provides passing students recognitionon national registries distributed to heating, ventilation, airconditioning, and refrigeration employers and homeowners.

The Residential HVAC A.A.S. program prepares students forservice and installation positions with specialization in thedesign, layout, installation, and service of residential HVACequipment. Students acquire skills in safety, HVAC principles,soldering and brazing, mechanical and electricaltroubleshooting, refrigerant handling, the use of refrigerantgauges, and electrical test equipment.

Stationary Engineer(Associate in Applied Science) Plan 24RS

The Stationary Engineering A.A.S. program prepares studentsfor employment as stationary engineers specialization indesign, layout, installation, and service of commercialbuilding HVAC equipment and green roof technology.Program coursework also prepares students to sit for theChicago Stationary Engineer Exam. Students acquire skills insafety, HVAC principles, soldering and brazing, mechanicaland electrical troubleshooting, refrigerant handling, the use ofrefrigerant gauges, and electrical test equipment.
