AIR GUARG - Air quality control system

APLICATION

The system is applicable to every cargo ship and passenger ship fitted with power ventilation system with vehicle, special category space and ro-ro space.

REGULATION

Amendments to SOLAS Regulation II-2/20 were adopted to accept a decreased number of air changes and/or a decreased amount of ventilation in ro-ro or vehicle spaces where an air quality control system is provided.

The ventilation system fitted on such area may be operated at decreased number of air change and decreased amount of ventilation, if ship is fitted with air quality control system based on the guideline as per MSC.1/ Circ. 1515.

The Air Guard air quality system is measuring the CO,NO2 and LEL concentration values and regulates the air flow by changing the number of revolution of supply and exhaust ventilators.

AIR GUARG - Air quality control system

The control system is designed for automatic and manual operation mode, override operation, alarm and monitoring of the air quality.

Any failure in the system including power failure of the control system, the ventilators switches to the capacity as required by ISO 9785:2002

The manufacturer’s instruction manual is available and delivered with the integration and includes the maintenance provisions, indicating frequency of testing and adjustment of the sensors.

The calibration, maintenance and testing of the system is to be carried out as per the instruction manual by authorised personal only.

All test results of the periodical test and verification are kept on a history log in the system. By this log can be verifies the adequacy of the air quality control system.

PERMISSIVE GAS LEVELS AND LIMITS

Alarm is given when the level exceeds 40 mg/m3 CO or 4 mg/m3 NO2 long-term exposure according to the standard ISO 9785:2002 or when a relative concentration of the atmosphere to the LEL is higher than 10%. Other more stringent exposure limits may be used when determined by the Administration, taking national or local occupational regulations into account.

VENT CONTROL SYSTEM

Ventilators are controlled by the air quality control system in order to provide the appropriate number of air changes to restore the normal values of CO, NO2 and LEL as soon as those levels are exceeded during 5 minutes. The ventilation regime should be continuously regulated in relation to the increase of gas concentration and to restore normal levels of CO or NO2 as soon as possible. We provide tree control modes analog digital and discrete ModBus RS485 Variable Drive control.

SENSOR INSTALATION

The size of space to be monitored: In areas comprised of dividers, sections, corners and other barriers to free movement of air should be condensed to one sensor per 900 m2. Lesser number of sensors may be accepted based on calculations or measurements of the response time on air quality in the holds. Must be fitted at least one sensor per hold or space.

ADDITIONAL AIR QUALITY TESTS

Petrik Naval provides periodically additional air pollution tests to ensure the proper condition of the air quality on board. The concentrations of the following pollutants can be determined; nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO). In addition

concentrations of benzene, toluene, xylene and suspended particulate matter (SPM) can also be determined whenever is required.
