PM10andPM2.5arenotasinglecompoundbutthemassconcentrationofallparticlessmallerthan10µm(PM10)or2.5µm(PM2.5)indiametersuspendedintheambientair.Especiallyinareaswithhightrafficrelatedpollutionthethresholdvaluesforthispollutantsarefrequentlyexceeded,whichmakesthempollutantsofmajorpublicinterest.

Measuring Principle: Nephelometry

NephelometerTheairpointerPMmoduleusesawellprovenopticalmethod,thenephelometry.Asampleheaterminimizeshumidityeffects.Itusesalight-scatteringphotometerwithanear-IRLED,asilicondetectorhybridpreamplifierandasourcereferencedetector.

Thelightscatteredisproportionaltotheparticleconcentration.Thisisthefastestparticleconcentrationmeasurementwithhighprecisionandverylowdetectionlimit.Theremightbeadependencyonparticlepropertiesforthecalculationofthemassconcentration.
