Definitions
LRU (Line Replaceable Unit): A unit which can be readily changed on an A/C during line maintenance.Repairable Item: An item comprising or including replaceable parts, commonly economically viable to
repair, and subject to being rehabilitated to a fully serviceable condition over a period less than the life of the flight equipment to which it is related.
Rotable Item: An item that can be economically restored to serviceable condition and, in the normal course of operations, can be repeatedly rehabilitated to a fully serviceable condition over a period approximating the life of the flight equipment to which it is related.
NUR (Number Of Unscheduled Removals): A performance figure outlining the number of items removed in the sample on a non-planned basis. According to the GCP, the unscheduled removal needs to be justified by precisely following the trouble-shooting manual and document its application.
MTBUR (Mean Time Between Unscheduled Removals): A performance figure calculated by dividing the total unit flight hours accrued in a period by the number of unscheduled unit removals that occurred during the same period. This figure can only be calculated at PN family level.
TSV (Time Since Shop Visit): A performance figure measured by counting the time since the last item visit in shop. This figure can be interpreted as MTBUR at component (“dash number”) level, therefore can be used to track the effectiveness of an embodied modification.
NFF (No Fault Found): A term used to describe the premature removal of a Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) that meets its airworthiness requirements for return to service.
DMC per unit FH (Direct Maintenance Cost per unit Flight Hours): The Direct Maintenance Cost (DMC) is the sum of material cost and labour cost for the test, maintenance, repair, overhaul and/or replacement in case of scrapping of each component over a given period divided by the total unit flight hours during the same period. DMC as defined here only includes the labour and material cost for off-wing (in-shop) activities. It does not include labour and material cost for access, removal, etc.
Pay-back period: Number of years required to amortize the investment to embody the recommendation.
