Save Our Tigers
Aircel – WWF Tiger Conservation Initiatives
Introduction
In association with WWF-India, Aircel has constituted the Support Initiative Fund (SIF).
Support is provided to tiger reserves with infrastructure, equipment and training, education programs for villagers in and around reserves, and other conservation efforts.
Following is the overview of the initiatives.
Panna Tiger Reserve
Provided a 4-wheeler and a motorcycle to increase mobility of staff, deter poachers.
The vehicles will help oversee the process of re-population of Panna.
Simlipal Tiger Reserve
Provided a 4-wheeler vehicle to increase patrolling and combat wildlife crime.
Nameri & Pakke Resrves (Assam)
6 country boats provided as mobile camps, increasing mobility of the staff.
230 winter jackets provided to increase mobility during winters and monsoons.
Sonai Rupai Sanctuary (Assam)
Supported construction of 1 anti-poaching camp
Provided 50 winter jackets to ensure better equipped personnel in the field.
Orang National Park (Assam)
Provided 150 winter jackets to help in field patrolling in winters and monsoons.
Nameri Tiger Reserve
Combat training provided to help tackle critical situations and anti-poaching operations.
Nameri Tiger Reserve
20 field training sessions organized; camera traps set up to accurately monitor tigers.
Community Awareness
Coaching camp for 80 students from fringe villages of Orang to help avert human-tiger conflicts.
Community Awareness
Awareness camp in Kaziranga for 22 students from Orang to train in better wildlife management.
Katerniaghat Sanctuary (UP)
Equipment provided:
1 speed boat for patrolling Girwa and Kauriala rivers
2 iron cages for translocating stray tigers
150 jackets for the frontline staff to help in better patrolling
Sathyamangalam Sanctuary
10 binoculars and 10 GPS devices provided
Equipment to be used for monitoring of tigers, co- predators and prey-base in the area
Also to ensure active protection from poaching threats
