Flying High in the Digital AgeIts not difficult to argue that were living in a golden age of technology and information. Technology is developing faster than ever, and its not just our personal lives that are affected - the logistics industry is changing rapidly as well. From smartphones, tablets and phablets to modern transport management systems, handheld barcode scanners and voice-directed warehousing solutions, new innovations emerge every day to make our lives as consumers and business professionals easier.
From the average consumer perspective, technology helps keep us connected and updated on the latest happenings around the world. From the logistics and transport perspective, technology enables improved efficiency, visibility and communication throughout the supply chain. High tech goods enrich our lives both at work and at home. But getting these products from the manufacturer to the distributor to the retailer takes a bit of skill, care and attention to a few key concerns.
With the constant influx of new high tech gadgets and lightning-quick development of technology, it doesnt take very long for one product to be replaced with a new and improved successor or a product from a competitor. In the high tech industry, if you dont move fast, youll be left behind. Thus, in order to maximize profits, its critical that the goods arrive at their destination as quickly as possible. Delays can be incredibly costly to manufacturers, shippers and retailers.
Time is not the only issue when it comes to shipping high tech goods. These types of products are not just high tech; theyre often high value, as well. Monetary loss due to damage or theft can be devastating. Therefore, high tech cargo requires strict handling procedures that should be carried out by trained and experienced staff, as well as strong security measures and close monitoring.
Shipping high tech cargo requires a little extra effort on the part of logistics providers, ground handlers and airlines. But technology has become such a huge part of our lives, its easy to see the benefits of investing in this continuously growing niche.

Aramex is Now in ThailandIn the Middle East, Aramex and its eye-catching red vehicles have long been the first thing that comes to mind when people think about transport and delivery. With a global network and high quality services, Aramex has grown impressively over the years. The company started with express delivery and presently provides a wide range of services. After more than 30 years in operation, Aramex has expanded its presence throughout Asia and all over the world according to its slogan Delivery Unlimited.
Although Thailand has been suffering from domestic political turmoil for years, the country is strategically located in the centre of Southeast Asia and it has infrastructure that connects the whole region together. Thus, Aramex saw the value in doing business in Thailand and decided to set up an office here to help it enter the market. In this issue, AFL had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Othman Aljeda, Aramexs Chief Executive Officer for Asia and Mr. Khanchai Choonhaswadikul, Aramexs Thailand Country Manager. Both shared useful insights as well as their plan to build Aramex into one of the most well-known logistics providers in Thailand. page 20
