Benefits

Layer - The Prysmian patented systemprovides excellent protection against impact andmechanical abuse during the lifetime of the cable. Italso provides increased tolerance to sidewall bearingpressures and static loads, without affecting thethermal or flexing characteristics of the cable.

The metallic shield is applied to the cable longitudinally.The polymer coating on the shield seals the overlap.

An extruded layer is bonded to the metallic shield andimproves mechanical strength. This material incombination with the metallic shield is highly resistantto organic chemicals such as hydrocarbons and solvents.In addition it provides resistance to termites and rodents.

The outer layer is offered in a choice of PrysmianLSOH or PVC. Both the and PVC

offer flame retardancy whilst also offers theadditional benefit of minimal release of smoke andtoxic fumes.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCEThe hydrocarbon blocking layer combined with themetallic shield prevents attack of moisture and liquidssuch as hydrocarbons and solvents, acids and bases

MECHANICAL PROTECTIONThe layer has proven in millions of meters ofinstalled cable to absorb the kinetic energy of a physi-cal shock. In this way less residual energy remains todamage the cores of the cable. Rigid metal armouringdoes not behave the same way during physical stress,part of the energy of the shock is transmitted to thecable core and leaves the armour permanently deformed.

ELECTRICAL PROPERTIESThe metallic layer provides electromagnetic shieldingand a current carrying path for harmonics found withvariable frequency drive motors.

In the oil & gas industry and in most industrialenvironments, a major problem is the attack of aggressive chemicals such as hydrocarbons, solvents,acids, bases and moisture. Penetration of these elements into the core of a cable compromises itsoverall lifetime performance, by reducing its dielectricstrength. Traditional methods to overcome this problem have used a continuously corrugated andwelded metallic layer as part of the cable construction.The disadvantages of this approach include anincrease in cable weight, diameter and difficulty incable handling.

Prysmian has combined the patented technologies ofand to provide the same protection

from fluid ingress, whilst enhancing the mechanicalproperties of the cable. This leads to improved cableperformance and increased cable reliability.

Benefits

Layer - The Prysmian patented systemprovides excellent protection against impact andmechanical abuse during the lifetime of the cable. Italso provides increased tolerance to sidewall bearingpressures and static loads, without affecting thethermal or flexing characteristics of the cable.

The metallic shield is applied to the cable longitudinally.The polymer coating on the shield seals the overlap.

An extruded layer is bonded to the metallic shield andimproves mechanical strength. This material incombination with the metallic shield is highly resistantto organic chemicals such as hydrocarbons and solvents.In addition it provides resistance to termites and rodents.

The outer layer is offered in a choice of PrysmianLSOH or PVC. Both the and PVC

offer flame retardancy whilst also offers theadditional benefit of minimal release of smoke andtoxic fumes.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCEThe hydrocarbon blocking layer combined with themetallic shield prevents attack of moisture and liquidssuch as hydrocarbons and solvents, acids and bases

MECHANICAL PROTECTIONThe layer has proven in millions of meters ofinstalled cable to absorb the kinetic energy of a physi-cal shock. In this way less residual energy remains todamage the cores of the cable. Rigid metal armouringdoes not behave the same way during physical stress,part of the energy of the shock is transmitted to thecable core and leaves the armour permanently deformed.

ELECTRICAL PROPERTIESThe metallic layer provides electromagnetic shieldingand a current carrying path for harmonics found withvariable frequency drive motors.

In the oil & gas industry and in most industrialenvironments, a major problem is the attack of aggressive chemicals such as hydrocarbons, solvents,acids, bases and moisture. Penetration of these elements into the core of a cable compromises itsoverall lifetime performance, by reducing its dielectricstrength. Traditional methods to overcome this problem have used a continuously corrugated andwelded metallic layer as part of the cable construction.The disadvantages of this approach include anincrease in cable weight, diameter and difficulty incable handling.

from fluid ingress, whilst enhancing the mechanicalproperties of the cable. This leads to improved cableperformance and increased cable reliability.

cables are recommended as an effectivealternative to a wire in conduit system and armouredcables. cables are designed to be used onhorizontal and vertical feeders, branch circuits, andgeneral industrial power applications. powercables are UL approved for installation in tray, raceway,aerial and direct buried environments.

Impact tests have been run on both types of cables inorder to evaluate the mechanical protection offered bythe cable design and the CCW cable. Thissimulates potential destructive forces that can beencountered by the cables during installation and cablelifetime. After testing, the damage to the cores hasbeen determined by laser measurement.

SIDE WALL BEARING PRESSURE TESTDirect comparisons of and CCW cables atPrysmian’s SWBP testing facilities show that airguardcables are able to withstand higher lateral forces thanthe equivalent CCW cables. This is used to simulate theextreme forces encountered during installation.
