11TH ACI EUROPE ECO-INNOVATION AWARD 2015 AWARDS CRITERIA AND ASSESSMENT GUIDE JUDGING PANEL As determined by the Advisory Board Members at their first meeting, the judging panel will be the members of the Advisory Board. INTRODUCTION These awards are presented to airports for excellence and achievement across a wide range of disciplines. An Airport Eco- Innovation Award is being made for the sixth time this year. To enter for this award, airports must be accredited to Airport Carbon Accreditation at any level and are required to submit, in no more than 1000 words, why they should be honoured as ‘best airport’ and to provide supporting evidence electronically, with no more than 1 document (app. 10 pages, including annexes) per section (environmental awareness, carbon management, stakeholder engagement, emissions and noise performance). Specifically, for the Airport Eco-Innovation Award, please provide details of best practices with regards to recognizing, addressing and reducing your airport’s environmental impact, with particular reference to: i) Environmental Awareness Evidence of an environmental management system to objectively monitor and assess the environmental impact (including surface and ground water management, habitat and ecology) Evidence of a medium term (3-5 year) sustainable action plan to reduce environmental impact whilst meeting economic requirements Addressing noise and air quality concerns of local residents Increased waste management activities supported by recycling targets and waste avoidance programme Carbon footprint / emissions reductions strategies ii) Carbon Management Measurement and Reporting Staff training Staff engagement and awareness about what they can do to support the airport in decreasing its carbon footprint Consideration of carbon impacts of investment decisions and in strategic plans iii) Stakeholder Engagement Third party companies operating at the airport Surface transport organizations Air traffic control and airlines Regulators Local community: Concrete evidence that the airport has adapted the way it operates in direct response to community engagement iv) Emissions and noise performance Evidence of setting and reaching goals and objectives to enhance best practice Coordinated schemes to encourage all airport staff across sectors to monitor operations The applications will be adjudicated at the Advisory Board meeting and the awards announced at the Gala Dinner of the ACI EUROPE General Assembly, Congress and Exhibition 2015 in Prague. The member of the Judging Panel can decide to single out a specific application, on the basis of qualitative criteria, especially in the area of innovation. Therefore, the selection process can lead to select one airport for the Eco-Innovation Award and a special prize for fast-progressing airport.

An Airport Eco-Innovation Award is being made for the s ixth t ime this year.To enter for this award, a irports must be accredited to Airport Carbon Accreditat ion at any level and are required to submit , in no more than 1000 words, why they should be honoured as ‘best a irport’ and to provide support ing evidence electronical ly, with no more than 1 document (app. 10 pages , including annexes) per sect ion (environmental awareness , carbon management, stakeholder engagement, emiss ions and noise performance) . Specif ical ly, for the Airport Eco-Innovation Award, p lease provide detai ls of best pract ices with regards to recogniz ing , address ing and reducing your a irport’s environmental impact , with part icular reference to:

i ) Environmental Awareness

• Evidence of an environmental management system to object ively monitor and assess the environmental impact ( including surface and ground water management, habitat and ecology)

• Evidence of a medium term (3-5 year) sustainable act ion plan to reduce environmental impact whi lst meeting economic requirements

• Address ing noise and a ir qual ity concerns of local res idents

• Increased waste management act iv it ies supported by recycl ing targets and waste avoidance programme

• Carbon footprint / emiss ions reductions strategies

i i ) Carbon Management

• Measurement and Report ing

• Staff tra ining

• Staff engagement and awareness about what they can do to support the a irport in decreasing its carbon footprint

• Considerat ion of carbon impacts of investment decis ions and in strategic plans

i i i ) Stakeholder Engagement

• Third party companies operat ing at the a irport

• Surface transport organizat ions

• Air traff ic control and a irl ines

• Regulators

• Local community: Concrete evidence that the airport has adapted the way it operates in direct response to community engagement

iv) Emiss ions and noise performance

• Evidence of sett ing and reaching goals and object ives to enhance best pract ice

• Coordinated schemes to encourage a l l a irport staff across sectors to monitor operat ions The applications wil l be adjudicated at the Advisory Board meeting and the awards announced at the Gala Dinner of the ACI EUROPE General Assembly, Congress and Exhibition 2015 in Prague. The member of the Judging Panel can decide to single out a specific application, on the basis of qual itative criteria, especial ly in the area of innovation. Therefore, the selection process can lead to select one airport for the Eco-Innovation Award and a special prize for fast-progressing airport.

PROPOSED JUDGING CRITERIAThe fol lowing qual itat ive quantitat ive assessment cr iter ia are proposed, noting that assessment is graded on a scale of 1-4 points, with 4 being the highest. To attain a note of 4 the applicant should also have met the requirements of points 1through 3. Also, the Advisory Board may wish to give addit ional weighting to points 5 and 6 for example.

1 . Detai ls of best practices with regards to recognizing , addressing and reducing the airport’s environmental impact: 1 point recognit ion, 2 points recognit ion and address ing , 3 points reducing , 4 points evidence of a medium term (3-5 year) sustainable act ion plan. These points wi l l be granted provided that the act ion plan can be assessed against concrete del iverables .

2 . Evidence of employee training and engagement: 1 point , bas ic environmental awareness tra ining for company staff , ; 2 points , structured environmental tra ining for specif ic a irport operat ional or management functions; 3 points ; programmed environmental tra ining across the company; 4 points ; environmental tra ining incorporated in environmental / sustainable act ion plan

3. Good practice in carbon management: 1 point , mapping , 2 points mapping plus staff tra ining , 3 points , staff engagement and awareness about what they can do to support the a irport in decreasing its carbon footprint , 4 points , considerat ion of carbon impacts in investment decis ions and in strategic plans .

4. Stakeholder engagement, including communications aspects: 1 point , inclus ion of several third party companies operat ing on the a irport , 2 points inclus ion of surface transport and or a ir traff ic control , a irl ine companies operat ing on the a irport , and local communit ies 3 points , inclus ion of regulators , whether local or nat ional , 4 points , consultat ion and cooperat ion with NGOs.

5. Emissions and Noise performance: 1 point , evidence of best pract ice in control l ing and reducing noise and emiss ions to a ir, ground and water ( including carbon emiss ions) , 2 points , evidence of sett ing goals to enhance best pract ice , 3 points evidence of sett ing and achieving goals to enhance best pract ice , 4 points , evidence of coordinated schemes to encourage a l l a irport staff across sectors to monitor operat ions .
