INTRODUCTION
1. BIN OMEIR EDUCATION FOUNDATION (BOEF)
BOEF’S VISION
BOEF’s vision is to contribute to the development of human capital in Abu Dhabi by providing the community with high quality education resulting in the individual achievement of significant learning outcomes by as many national and expatriate residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as we can serve.
BOEF is committed to
Giving our learners an education that is meaningful and relevant to their personal, academic, social and/or work-life.
Setting up new high quality learning-centered educational institutions that realize BOEF’s vision.
Enabling BOEF’s vision to unify and lead all our educational institutions in their continuous efforts to provide quality education.
Populating our educational institutions with teachers/facilitators, senior managers and leaders who are trained to provide standards-based instruction leading to significant learning outcomes.
Giving authority to the professionals we hire, yet holding them accountable to a clear set of key performance indicators (KPIs) that will guide them and ensure the provision of quality performance at all times.
Providing our learners with the highest standards of personal physical safety, health and personal well-being.
BOEF’S MISSION
To set up new learning-centered educational institutions (day-care centres, K-12 schools, higher education institutions and management consultancy training offices) that will share the BOEF vision and implement it against key performance indicators at institutional, program and individual levels.
To make certain each institution provides learners with life and academic skills appropriate to their subsequent formal educational phase in their effort to learn and earn the best academic qualifications and personal, interpersonal and professional qualities for life.
T0 upgrade existing educational institutions with the view to transform them into high-quality learning-centered establishments.
To partner with well-established educational institutions, business organizations, government and non-government organizations and other community entities that will effectively contribute to carrying out our mission.
BOEF will strive to ensure that we
Provide our learners with an active learning teaching experience, avoiding rote or passive learning.
Use means of assessment that are educative in nature (Assessment for Learning), qualitative and quantitative, standardized, frequent, performance–based (using shared criterion and standards) and involving self-assessment.
Align our teaching activities and assessment activities to Significant Learning Outcomes by a process referred to as backward design.
Continuously assess and collect data to improve our performance at the teaching/training levels, course levels and at the wider institutional level. Our organizational culture will be data-driven – ‘self-study against set targets’. Institutional action planning and assessment will be guided by our findings and targets.
PARENTS HANDBOOK 4
Use technology to enhance learning and to not just facilitate teaching (learning-driven technology)
Provide continuous professional development for teachers, facilitators and staff.
2. AJYAL INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

its core, BOEF will hold true to the binding principles of its vision statement across all its institutions.
AJYAL International School's new building is impressive, with an eye-catching and architecturally distinctive

11. NATIONAL ANTHEM At 8.00 am each morning, the UAE National Anthem will be played across the campus. All persons on campus are kindly requested to stop what they are doing and stand still until the Anthem has finished.
12. LATE ARRIVALS Students must report and register at the Main Reception if they arrive at school after the student entrances are locked at 8.00am. A Late Pass must be collected from the Reception and handed to the class teacher. We understand that circumstances beyond your control may result in occasional lateness, but we trust that this will happen very rarely. Punctuality is a sign of respect to others in the school community, and is very important. Because of this, repeated late arrival at school and/or at lessons will be followed up in line with our Behaviour Management Policy, which can be found on our website. 13. BUSES The FAST bus service provides transportation at the beginning and end of the school day. It will operate a near-to-door service. Buses are equipped and maintained to the highest standards. Each bus is allocated a Bus Supervisor to oversee the students. The Bus Supervisor has access to a mobile phone to contact the school and/or transport company if necessary. Please note that we expect all students to show respect for the Bus Supervisor and Driver and to comply with safety regulations on school transport. Students who fail to follow the rules create a risk to all passengers and may not be permitted to use school transport. Further details and queries about the bus service are available from the Student Services Officer. 14. ATTENDANCE Taking students out of school during the academic year can be significantly damaging to students' learning and is actively discouraged. Please note that appointments for routine dental or medical appointments should be made out of school time. If appointments with specialist consultants during the school day are unavoidable, please let us know as soon as the appointment is made. Please bring a copy of the appointment card so that we can record this as an authorised absence. Students arriving late or leaving early for routine medical appointments or for non-emergency family reasons will be recorded as absent without authorisation for half a day. If you do need to take your child out of school for one or more days for an unavoidable reason, please complete the form at the end of this handbook and send it to the Key Stage Leaders as early as possible. Written authorisation must be given by the Key Stage Leaders before the absence. Without this authorisation, your child's absence will be recorded as unauthorised. Students are allowed a maximum of 20 days of unauthorized absence, after which they must repeat the year. Further detail is available in the Attendance Policy, which can be found on our website.

The six areas of Significant Learning complement each other and the ENC to create an integrated, personalised and dynamic learning experience for all students. They encapsulate and define the learning outcomes for students at AJYAL International School and are
Foundational Knowledge - understanding and remembering information and ideas
Application - use of skills and thinking (critical, creative & practical)
Integration – connecting ideas, people and different areas of students’ lives
Human Dimensions - learning about themselves and others
Caring - developing new feelings, interests and values
Learning How To Learn - becoming a better student, more enquiring and self-directed

18. LEARNING CENTRED SCHOOL AJYAL International School is a learning centred institution ensuring the following
important types of learning are clearly identified
students have high-quality and varied learning experiences
high-quality educational programs are provided
high-quality teaching is delivered
high-quality training is given to those designing, delivering and managing the SLM 19. SPECIALISMS In aspiring to make the school a centre of excellence and establish its own areas of expertise in the BOEF vision, AJYAL International School will develop specialisms in
Engineering and Technology
Medicine and Health Professions
The Arab Gulf and Globalisation We welcome contributions from parents who have expertise and/or experience in any of these areas. Please complete the Parent Special Skills form at the back of this handbook and contact the Deputy Principal, if you are able to offer your support. 20. HOMEWORK AND HOMEWORK DIARIES We see homework as an important part of students’ school experience. Learning at home encourages students to be proactive and independent learners and allows you to be an informed and active participant in your child’s learning. Through our website and/or the Homework Diary, teachers will provide specific details about homework assignments and about how you can best support your child. The following table outlines our general homework guidelines:
YEAR GROUP MINIMUM TIME FOCUS
KG1 10/15 mins per day Daily reading in Arabic and English
KG2 and G1 equal to 1.5 hrs per week Daily reading in Arabic and English plus literacy and number work
G2 & 3 equal to 2 hrs per week Daily reading in Arabic and English plus literacy and number work and subject specific assignments
G4 & 5 45 mins per day Weekly schedule with an emphasis on literacy and number work as well as subject specific assignments and daily reading
G6, 7, 8 & 9 3 subjects x 30 mins per day Weekly schedule including daily reading, research, practice, preparation, discussion, and consolidation
Students in Year 3 upwards use their Planners to record specific homework assignments. Teachers may also write notes for your child, or for you. Please check and sign the planner every day. We encourage you to write your own notes/messages for individual teachers to ensure effective and timely communication of any questions or concerns you may have. Teachers will sign messages in the Diary to acknowledge receipt.

21. HOME-SCHOOL COMMUNICATION Good communication between home and school is of the utmost importance. There is a clear chain of communication which we ask you to follow so that we can respond quickly to your questions and concerns. First, please raise any issue with your child's class teacher/form tutor. Because teachers spend most of their time in the classroom, we ask you to make an appointment in advance and after-school, by writing in the student planner or by emailing the teacher directly. Email addresses for teachers are generic and comprise the teacher's first name and surname separated by a full-stop and followed by @ajyal.sch.ae, for example [email protected] If you would like to discuss the issue further, please contact the respective Learning Manager responsible for your child's Key Stage. The Learning Manager may refer the matter to the Deputy Principal and/or Principal. Methods of home-school communication include

Please note that reports will not be issued before the published date, but may be collected from the school after the end of term. 23. PARENT-TEACHER CONSULTATIONS Parent-Teacher Consultations will be held close to the time reports are issued, to allow parents an opportunity to discuss their child's academic progress and well-being. Students may bring a named water bottle to school every day. No other food & drink must be sent to school. 33. BIRTHDAYS No birthday celebrations are allowed in school. 34. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES In addition to educational visits and events which complement classroom based learning, we will offer extra-curricular and after-school activities, as far as expertise and numbers allow. It is anticipated that students will take a full part in these activities. However, many other activities, such as dance, martial arts, fencing, etc will require the services of specialists. When this is the case, an extra fee will be charged for these activities, but these will be voluntary activities. 35. LOST PROPERTY
