What a wonderful day the students in K-4 had yesterday.
It was terrific to see the students getting off the bus all
smiles and full of stories from their day at the
Currumbin Bird Sanctuary. A special thankyou to Mrs
Houlden for organising the day and to all the teachers,
SLSOs and parents that accompanied them.
Student Reports have been finalised and interview
notes have been sent out. Please return your interview
note or contact the office to make an appointment.
Reports will be given out at interview. Teachers are
looking forward to meeting with parents and
discussing your child’s progress throughout the year.

Currumbin Excursion

I have been looking at classes for next year. This year
we lose a wonderful, but very large Year 6 cohort. This
means that we will very likely have two classes next year
instead of three depending on our enrolments. 2014
should see us back up to three classes. Through
National Partnerships we will be able to employ a
teacher part time next year to maintain our three classes
for half a day. At the moment we are looking at a model
where children will be put into Literacy and Numeracy
groups in the morning and return to home classes in the
afternoon. This will be extremely beneficial as with our
numbers it will allow concentrated teaching in the
mornings to children at a similar level. Because staffing
in our schools is directly related to the number of children
enrolled, we will not know for certain until next year, but
this will be the model we plan to start the year with. If
you have any questions in regards to your child’s
placement, please contact the school to discuss this.
Tomorrow is the Richmond River High School
Orientation Day. Students intending to attend RRHS
need to ensure they have transport to and from the
school tomorrow. The day begins at 9am and finishes at
3.15. The SRC are putting on a sausage sizzle for lunch,
but students can take some of their own or the canteen
will be available if they need a little more.
The Year 3-6 Excursion takes place next week and we
are seeing some very excited children. The bus will leave
Albert Park Public school at 8.00am sharp, Monday
Morning. Children will need to be at school by 7.40am. It
arrives back at 3.45pm Wednesday afternoon. Children
will need to be picked up from school.
Thank you to Mrs Houlden for organising the excursion
to Currumbin. All students who attended really enjoyed
the experiences. It was great to see the students
interacting with the animals. We were lucky enough to
have a guide for the entire day and that meant that we
got the best seats for all the shows! A big thank you also
to Gloria, Elliot and Peter for helping out on the day. This
had to be one of the best excursions ever!
We are looking at World War 1 (HSIE), the heroic
Simpson and his Donkey and the important role they
played for our troops.
Students have started practicing their song and will
need to bring along colourful (Hippy) clothes for the
end of term assembly performance.
Could we please have all home readers (in the blue
folders) and library books returned over the next few
weeks.
A good time was had by all on the K-4 Excursion to
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary yesterday! The children
were able to get up close and personal with a variety
of animals from enormous pythons to a beautiful
golden brushtail possum. They were treated to a
variety of shows and of course the amazing feeling of
a lorikeet landing on their head The staff were
impressed by the excellent behaviour displayed by the
students and I had a number of compliments from the
staff at the sanctuary about the student’s lovely
manners and good behaviour. Well done K-4!
We’d like to thank parents and carers for making
yesterday possible for the students and a special
thank you to Mrs Giacobetti and the ladies in the office
for all their help with the organization of the excursion.
I still have spots left during the week for parent
teacher interviews, so please let me know or call at the
office to arrange a time to come and have a chat.
