BitCan provides reservoir recovery technologies and integrated geomechanics-related services to the worldwide oil/ gas industry. Since its founding in 2000, volumetric fracturing and caprock/casing/fault seal integrity have been our two pillar technologies and services. BitCan’s technologies promote volumetric reservoir stimulation, aiming to maximize reservoir contact and thereby, improve production and recovery factor. Among them, one proven technology, FUSETM (patents pending) has added million-dollar values per well to the SAGD production. Another technology, called as in-situ stress engineering, waits for pilot tests in hydraulic fracturing stimulation of the tight reservoirs.

For the geological containment assurance, BitCan’s total solution package has served perhaps 90% of the Canadian market and expanded to several international markets. It includes geotechnical characterization, maximum operating pressure (MOP) design as well as monitoring and mathematical inversion for continuous diagnosis and prognosis of the containment performance. In addition, BitCan’s mini-frac test systems (hardware and software) have served around the world in a wide range of lithologies (sandstone, carbonate, shale, salt, till) at different depths (15 m to 4000 mTVD).

Company Objectives in China:To apply BitCan’s technologies and services, particularly the in-situ stress engineering technology, to China for the unconventional reservoir production. A near-term objective is to identify a willing operator who allows our technologies to be demonstrated in the unique reservoir geology in China. The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, delivers one of the highest calibre engineering programs in the world. The department was founded in 1965 and is now home to 37 faculty members, 12 research chairs — including five Canada research chairs, four NSERC Industrial Research Chairs, two endowed research chairs, and one university professorship — and approximately 390 graduate students and 550 undergraduates.
