ALBUM COVERDECONSTRUCTION

Page 2: Album deconstructions

The artists’ name is positioned in the top right of the album cover. It is in white font, contrasting it from the black background and helping to make it stand out a lot.

The title of the album/single is written underneath the band name. Again it is in a white font, it stand out a lot and is really clear to read.

The inclusion of instruments is something that stood out to me in this album cover. I think it looks good, and helps to show what they do as a band. From this people can tell what each members part in the band is.

I like the fact the drums take up a fair bit of the cover. It clearly shows viewers that it is a music album and from it you know that in the music video there will be people playing the instruments. I think that the inclusion of instruments is quite a good idea and I may consider getting Jonny to hold the guitar for my album cover.

The colours that have been used in this is quite different as you don’t normally see a black album cover. There is also yellow/orange and pink artificial lights that have been used. This is quite unusual and different, the lights help to make the band members each stand out more.

The band members are all in different positions, doing different thing. This helps to make the cover varied and interesting. They are all pulling different facial expressions, and it looks as if they are playing live. They look very passionate about their music and look as if they are enjoying what they are doing.

They are all wearing black and white clothing, a shirt and tie. This helps to link the band members together. Also, the white shirt contrasts against the black background and really helps to make this band member stand out.

I like how the majority of the cover is taken up by the band and their instruments and how the rest is this black lit up, kind of distorted background.

I like how their faces have been lit up by the lighting, it draws viewers into looking at them. This especially is through the top two band members with the yellow light shinning down directly onto them.

From looking at this cover, I feel that I may consider using the guitar as a prop in my album cover. Also, I think I may try experiment with making the background slightly distorted/blurred to make the people stand out more.

The image used for this album cover is quite unique and different. It is of the artists legs as they are walking along. They are all in different positions helping to make it more varied rather than them being all just stood along next to each other.

They are all wearing dark jeans, helping to show their connection with one another. They look quite fashionable, making them appeal to the target audience.

The location is very natural, you can see grass, leaves and stones. This makes the album have a very natural feel to it, a conventions that many alternative rock covers have in common.

The image as a sort of sepia effect to it, I really like it and think it looks good. By using different coloured filters, I think it helps to make the image appear more interesting.

The cover has a white border around it, I think it works well and makes the cover more eye catching. I may consider using a border around my product.

The image has been taken so that the majority of the shot is of the ground, and the top third is of the band walking. I like this works well and it allows room for the album name to clearly be written. When taking my images, I must take into consideration where I want the text to me positioned.

I like the inclusion of the stones and I think it works well to help portray the natural environment. When taking images for my album, I am going to use the environment around, like bricks, stones and trees for example.

The artist name and name of album is written in this black circle. It is positioned in the centre, making it very eye catching. The circle is sort of transparent, you can see the image in the background behind slightly.

The artist name is written in white font, it contrasts from the black circle and is clear and easy to read. The name of the album is written in brown, this makes it link to the sepia tone of the image. They are written in the same font, creating a sense of consistency.

I like the simplicity of this cover, it shows that a simple cover can be just as successful. I really like the sepia tone of the cover and may experiment using a sepia tone on my image. I also like the font consistency and think that this work well to make the cover look consistent and professional.
