As you are most likely aware, Albury High School participates in the DEC Students Volunteering Program. I thought that proud parents or guardians of Year 9 students would like to see their child has been recognised in this program. So far this year I have validated 1670.5 hours from 132 out of 159 students who have logged onto their Portal and I have awarded 39 certificates in total. The students listed should be proud of themselves. Congratulations to them all. I still have several students who have logged hours but do not have supervisor signatures yet. If you can help them connect the dots, please do. I will report new names and awards in future Grapevine editions. Year 10 is also still enrolled in the system. So if your Year 10 students are still involved in service for the community, then please remember that I will validate their hours and print certificates for them too. Well done to all involved.

Swan Shield Football
Tuesday 23rd August saw our U15 Swan Shield football team play in Wollongong at the NSWCHS Swan Shield Knockout quarter and semi-finals, teams came from all over the state. The boys played two games and after a successful day, they qualified to play in the final of the 2016 Swan Shield Knockout. Game one was played against Hastings College from Port Macquarie. Not being a traditional AFL area, one would expect that we should account for them quite comfortably, and that is exactly what happened. Final score was: Albury High School 20-12-132 defeated Hastings College 0-2-2. Goal kickers: W.Mack 6, J.Hillary 4, K.Cooper 3, B.Parr 2, C.Hamilton, R.Scammell, A.Shepherd, B.MacFarlane and C.Byrne Our second opponent was Wagga High School and in windy conditions the Albury High boys were again able to manufacture a comprehensive victory. Final score was: Albury High School 13-8-86 defeated Wagga High School 0-1-1. Goal kickers: J.Hillary 4, A.Shepherd 2, C.Butt, B.Parr, W.Mack, K.Cooper, C.Byrne, C.Hamilton and A.Pretious. The Swan Shield finals will be played at Albury Sportsground on Tuesday 20th September against Deniliquin High School. A victory to Albury High School would be three wins in succession for the school in the Swan Shield Knockout. If the boys are successful in winning the Swan Shield final they will then qualify for the All School Giants Cup final to be played the next day. That will be against the winner of Mater Dei College, Wagga High School and Westfields Sports High School.

TELL THEM FROM ME STUDENT SURVEY As I mentioned in earlier newsletters, the school will take part in the Tell Them From Me Student Survey and I ask all parents to encourage students to participate. Below is more information about the survey and its purpose as well as a slip if you wish to withdraw your son and/or daughter. This survey will provide important and relevant information to the school for planning purposes and we encourage everyone to complete it honestly so our data is valid.
The survey will be open prior to the end of term and closes on the 21st October. Students in years 7-10 will complete the survey in guidance and students in years 11-12 in a selected class.
