The same is true with our Bible and the story that Jesus tells in Matthew 4:18-22 (NRSV): As Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. No longer was their sole purpose to cast a net to catch fish, but their purpose increased in significance. They were now fishing for people. This passage makes me wonder: Today, what is our ‘net’? Are we using our ‘net’ to fish for people? How do we define our worth? What do we truly value? Where do we invest in God’s Kingdom? What are our returns? How do we multiply our returns? To help answer some of these questions, we begin a new sermons series: Net Worth on Sunday, October 17th. Together we will seek God’s wisdom with the above questions. At the conclusion of this series, we will have the opportunity to make personal commitments of our offerings to God through our church in the coming year. We will consecrate these commitments in worship on November 7th. I hope you will join us in the coming weeks as we discover the significance of our ‘nets’ for the Kingdom of God. Marla has enjoyed sushi for many years, and persistently, she tried to get me to try it. I refused over and over again. I was too scared

Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him.

Jesus made Peter, Andrew, James, and John fisherman for people. No longer was their sole purpose to cast a net to catch fish, but their purpose increased in significance. 10TH ANNUAL RUN FOR MISSION

JOIN PROJECT LINUS

This group makes quilts and knitted/crocheted blankets for local children who are hospitalized or in car accidents. We also support other ministries

such as Prayer Shawls and Helmet Liners (for our troops overseas). The group meets at the church on the 2nd Tuesday of each month and at Sandy Bittrick’s home on the 4th Tuesday of each month.

They would love to have you!

LORD’S ACRE AND RUN FOR MISSIONS

This month, we have two great events that support mission and ministries of our church! We have our Lord’s Acre on Saturday, October 2nd from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thank you to Janice Cole and the many wonderful leaders in our church for leading this important event. All parts of our church are connected through Lord’s Acre. Just to name a few: Our United Methodist Women host the dinner; the children’s area hosts the carnival; the mission ministries organize the silent auction; our CIA Sunday school class leads the live

auction, and the choir sings. Please make plans to attend the Lord’s Acre this Saturday!

Our 10th Annual Run for Mission is on Saturday, October 16th! Thank you to John Scott and the many leaders in our church for leading this wonderful run! Whether you are a runner, walker, or none of the above, please make every effort to attend. We will need volunteers to help with the run, along with runners and walkers to support the run. The money raised through our Run for Missions goes to support the missions of our church!

As we raise money for missions through this run, remember that the next two Sundays, we will continue our sermon series: The Amazing Race. Together we will explore this race we call life. I hope you will join me as worship our God together.

We have two great opportunities to have a great time while raising money to support the mission and ministries of this wonderful church! I hope to see you there!

Grace and peace,
