Aleksey Urmanov was born in Leningrad on November 17th 1973

Family: his wife is Viktoria, who gave birth to twins, Ivan and Andrei (2001)
THE START OF THE CAREER
Urmanov started skating at the age of four.
Urmanov trained at the Yubileyny Sports Palace, which during the 1990s often had poor-quality ice and other problems, resulting in limited training time.
Competed for the Soviet Union, he won the silver medal at the 1990 World Junior Championships.
After the fall of the Soviet Union, Urmanov chose to compete for Russia. In 1991, at age 17, he became the first skater to perform a quadruple jump at the European Championships.
THE CAREER
He competed at the 1992 Winter Olympics, where he placed 5th.
He won the bronze medal at the 1993 World Championships.
He is the Olympic champion (Lillehammerand, 1994) and Honoured Masters of Sports of the Russian Federation.

Urmanov chose to continue to participate in amateur competitions, and won the European Championships in 1997, but the injuryforced him to in the short program and then withdrew from the worldchampionships the same year, alsotherefore miss the 1998 NaganoWinter Olympic games.
In 1999 he retired to occupation player, won the 2000 world champion occupation.
NOWADAYS
Urmanov is currently a figure skating coach and an ISU (International Skating Union) technical specialist.
He formerly coached Sergei Voronov, Nodari Maisuradze, and Gordei Gorshkov.
His current students include Nikol Gosviani, Polina Agafonova, and Zhan Bush.
He is based in Saint Petersburg, Russia, but sometimes holds summer camps or clinics in other locations such as Luleå, Sweden and Paris, France.
Urmanov is known for his colorful costumes and ballet style. He managed to embody on the ice all the best qualities of the athlete and actor. Aleksey's performances were little spectacle in the insanely complex world of figure skating
