Introducing… Suzanne Rea!
G’day! I guess I’m going to have to get used to saying that?
I’m very excited to be coming to the community of Woolgoolga, and to teaching at St. Francis
Xavier Primary. I grew up in Vancouver, BC – the third largest city in Canada, but have spent the
last 26 years in a small town called Comox on Vancouver Island. This is where I raised my son
and daughter who are now quite independent. The Comox Valley has been an ideal location for
me because I have been able to pursue the activities I enjoy most, like biking, swimming, hiking,
boating, and skiing – though a bad knee has curtailed that last activity. I enjoy going to exercise classes and just
keeping myself relatively fit – not easy when I enjoy chocolate and cheese. Educationally, I have a Bachelor of Arts
with a double major in Anthropology and Sociology; a Diploma in French Language Studies from the University of
Grenoble, France, where I spent one year; a Bachelor of Education with a focus on the Middle Years and with a
specialization in teaching French as a second language; and finally, a Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership.
I have visited Australia on two other occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed the people and the country. I’m
looking forward to meeting you all very soon.

St Francis Xavier Feast Day
This Sunday, December 3, is the Feast Day of St Francis Xavier. We will be celebrating as a school this Wednesday, December 6. As the Year 6’s will be away at camp, the Year 5 students will be stepping up and showcasing their leadership skills. The Year 5 stu-dents will be running a range of games and activities for the whole school in the after-noon block 1.40pm - 2.40pm and families are very welcome to come and join in. We will also have a rally at the end of the day 2.40pm - 3.00pm featuring music, dancing and scripture.
Who is St Francis Xavier?
St Francis Xavier is the patron saint of missionaries and one of the founders of the Jesuit order. St Francis Xavier sought religious converts throughout Asia during the 1500s. St Francis Xavier was born in 1506, in Spain. His friend, Ignatius of Loyola, encouraged St Francis Xavier to devote himself to religious service and he became one of the founders of the Jesuit order. Much of St Francis Xavier’s life was spent tending to missions in areas such as India and Japan. He was 46 when he died on China's Shangchuan Island on December 3, 1552.
St Francis Xavier passed away at a young age, but he accomplished much in his life. He was a founding member of the Jesuit order (the same order of our Pope Francis) and he baptised an estimated 30,000 people. St Francis Xavier was beatified by Pope Paul V in 1619 and canonized by Pope Gregory XV in 1622.

Our Mini Vinnies members are preparing for this year’s Christmas Hamper Appeal.
Each class has been given a hamper to fill, and a list of items required to provide a local family in need with a Christmas Day meal.
We are asking the children to bring one item to contribute to the hamper.

ALLERGY ALERT
Nuts and other food allergies
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have students in our school and some who are recently enrolled who are at risk of Anaphylaxis. They have an allergy
to peanuts and/or tree nuts. Exposure to nut products will trigger a serious reaction, and such a reaction (anaphylaxis)
could be fatal if not treated quickly and appropriately.
In order to provide as safe environment as possible for all children, we are asking for your cooperation in not sending nuts
or nut products to school at any time. This will help to reduce the risk for these children. Nut products include peanut
butter, nutella, crunchy nut biscuits, peanut muesli bars and dips.
The school, staff and parents of ‘at risk’ children are implementing strategies to help these children to be aware of their
allergies and to learn responsibility. Whilst we cannot guarantee the elimination of nut products from the school environ-
ment, your full and alert cooperation will ensure risks are minimised especially around special food events, for example,
cake stalls, parties and everyday lunch and recess.
We understand that these measures will require extra thought when packing your child’s lunch. Thank you for your co-
operation, which we understand may cause some inconvenience, however it will enable these children and their families
to feel supported and safer in their school environment.
If you require further information regarding Anaphylaxis please contact the school.
Snack Suggestions - Pre-Packaged Foods
Many Pre-Packaged foods contain nuts, however here are a few pre-packaged brands and products which we understand
