Is the item necessary for the project? Slide 8 Two Distinct Budget Formats Non-Modular Format Used for research grant applications requesting more than $250,000 direct costs per year Modular Format Used for research grant applications requesting less than $250,000 direct costs per year Slide 9 Budget Justification Specific to the sponsor Non-Modular and Modular Requirements are different Provide the justification for each individual in the same order as listed on the budget page (PI first, remaining in role importance) Present the categories in the same order as on the budget page Give additional information if it isnt obvious in the budget Slide 10
