New facilities for the Theatre and Studio Arts department at Hamilton College include an extensive scope of lansdcape development: stormwater management structured the design and provided opportunities for programming, including a constructed wetland and pond system and the construction of four parking lots with integrated bioretention swales. Terraces, paths, site walls and concrete risers create a network of circulation, gathering spaces and performance areas. The project is nearly complete, with an anticipated opening in the summer of 2014.

Pond weir wallsTwo concrete weir walls serve to flood wetlands and hold water in a pond, while steel plates at the overflow points call attention to the way water is moving through the site.

Parking lot bioretentionRunoff from impervious surfaces are treated in bioretention areas graded to allow for ponding and planted with native wetland plants.

State regulations required extensive treatment of stormwater, which drove the site design and created campus amenities.

Situated in downtown Boston on the Rose Kennedy Greenway and as little as five feet above the Interstate 93 tunnel, the redevelopment of this urban plaza was approached with consideration of numerous social and technical design opportunities. The site design is centered around a carousel surrounded by a dense grove of canopy trees – a challenging feat given the site’s uncompromising urban conditions.

ROWLAND HOUSEAurora NYCommercial$800,0001.9 acresCompleted June 2014Holmes, King, Kallquist, architecture

The Rowland House is a former residential property converted to a guest house and event venue. The design builds on patterns set by six of Reed Hilderbrand’s previous projects in the small village of Aurora, which have developed an identifiable landscape character for the town. As project manager I have overseen the project’s construction, which was completed in June, 2014.

BUFFALO BAYOUHouston TXPublicUnknown20 acres (gardens)Anticipated completion in 2014SWA Group, landscape architecture

In collaboration with SWA Group, we developed overall planting strategies for the second phase of Buffalo Bayou Park, along with designs for four specific gardens within the park. Each of these gardens provided unique existing conditions, with design intent influenced by topography, hydrology, program, and native plant communities.

LOUISIANA OLD STATE CAPITOLBaton Rouge LAInstitutionalNot constructed3.7 acresSchematic design completedSuzanne Turner Associates, landscape history

With multiple sites adjacent to Louisiana’s Old State Capitol having been redeveloped into contemporary park spaces, the grounds are now positioned as the center of a “Central Green” in downtown Baton Rouge. In a study of how the property must be updated to serve today’s downtown Baton Rouge, our first step was to acknowledge the site’s rich history and let that inform design strategies. An historic analysis was completed in collaboration with Suzanne Turner Associates, and a schematic design was produced.

BENNINGTON COLLEGEBennington VTInstitutionalNot constructed440 acresMaster plan ongoingVHB, traffic engineering

An update to the Bennington College Master Plan has involved careful consideration of the 450-acre campus’s rural, agrarian character, while focusing efforts on improving the overall circulation network. A primary goal of the plan is to re-organize vehicle traffic, removing a road from the center of campus and creating a perimeter loop road in order to prioritize the pedestrian experience in the campus core.

BEVERLY HILLS RESIDENCEBeverly Hills CAResidential$6.0 million (total project $32 million)3.0 acresAnticipated completion Spring 2016Richard Meier Partners, architecture

This residential commission for a 3-acre site in Bevery Hills involves construction of a pool, koi pond, gardens, pedestrian bridges, extensive plantings, entry drive, and arrival court, while negotiating steep topography. Concurrent design and construction of a new 19,000-square foot house by Richard Meier & Partners greatly influenced the landcape architecture.
