CONNECTING THE DIOCESE Bishop William P. Callaghan’s new radio program, “Connecting the Diocese” had its inaugural broadcast on the four Relevant Radio stations in the Diocese of La Crosse on April 13th. As this is a new venture, the show will repeat on April 27 at 9am, April 28 at 10am and April 29 at noon. Pro-moting the faith and communicating with the Catholics of a geographically large and diverse diocese is not easy. Just ask Bishop Callaghan who traverses the 19 counties on a regular basis. “Connecting the Diocese,” an initiative produced in conjunction with Relevant Radio, is the Bishop’s effort to help bring the diocese togeth-er. In the inaugural broadcast, Bishop Callaghan offers a welcoming state-ment for his listeners: “Hi everybody, it’s good to be with you today. This is our inaugural show and we are definitely interested in hearing what you have to say and listening to your points of view; we’ll make that available to you as we go along….to be able to allow for your comment, your input—that’s really what the whole point of this radio program is about. Listeners in the inaugural show will learn where Bishop Callaghan grew up and how he came to be a priest. He also talks about his various as-signments as a priest and of his reaction when he was informed that the Pope selected him to become an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Mil-waukee, and later, the bishop of the Diocese of La Crosse. In addition to Bishop Callaghan, guests on future programs will in-clude diocesan curia members, visitors of interest, and interviews with the people of our parishes—including interviews with the clergy and laity from across the diocese. People who are unable to listen to Relevant Radio can listen to the programs that will be posted as MP3 files at www.dioceseoflacrosse.com and at www.thecatholictimes.com following their airing.

AN EVENING WITH THE BISHOP Come and follow me, I have a plan for you. This message has been heard by our seminarians and to help them to fulfill their vocation they need our support. Each year we offer the op-

portunity for benefactors to meet Bishop Callaghan and seminarians. Through these annual gatherings we raise money for their education and formation. Over 35 men will be in college and theology seminary formation. Given this blessing and

the difficulty of raising funds for non-profit organizations in today’s world, we want to extend our invitation to peo-ple who support our seminarians and their commitment. We want to say thank you to those individuals who sup-port vocations, as well as provide a fine dining experience in both the La Crosse and Wausau area.

There will be 2 opportunities to meet the Bishop and semi-narians. In La Crosse, we will be gathering the evening of July 22nd at the Waterfront Restaurant, and in Wausau on August 17th at the Great Hall at The Grand. If you are inter-ested in joining us, please contact the Office of Vocations, 608-791-2667, fax: 608-791-2675 or [email protected] for a formal invitation and opportunity to RSVP with your preferred date and loca-tion. HAPPINESS HELD IS THE SEED, HAPPINESS SHARED IS THE FLOWER. Do you have 30 minutes to spend with a student who could use some extra attention to get through their day? One day a week is all it takes to put some happiness and fun into a child’s day. Help a child “blossom” by offering sup-port and encouragement and sharing what you know about life. To learn more about becoming a mentor, log on to cfsd.chipfalls.k12.wi.us/Mentors.cfm or call Ash-ley at 715-726-2400 ext. 2516.
