The Alhambra High School counselors strive to assist students in achieving success in all aspects of their lives.

Counselors get to know their students in grade nine and remain involved with them throughout high school, providing individual, ongoing guidance on academic, personal, extracurricular, and post-secondary options.

Budget and enrollment will impact whether or not these courses are provided.

ART 1: Emphasizes the Elements of Art. Explore a variety of drawing and painting media. Includes a variety of culturally diverse subject matter.

PHOTOGRAPHY 1: Intro course in digital photography.  Students will study the history of photography, as well as learn to create, edit, print their own photos and use for web presentation. Students will also learn and apply the technicaltools of  Photoshop as well as the process of using photography for artistic self-expression.

ART SURVEY: Hands-on exploration

with 2D, 3D materials and Digital Art.

Projects includes Crafts, Sewing, Animation, and Graphic Design

Digital Media Art 1 and 2 (New Class):

BAND: Fall: Marching Band and Spring: Concert Band. Performances at football games, parades and festivals will be a large part of this class.*

ORCHESTRA: This is a performance class for all students with previous experience playing a string instrument. Evening performances are required in this class.*

AUXILLARY TEAM: A flag/I.D. team experience that focuses on spinning, tossing and marching techniques. Performances with the Marching Band at football games, parades and festivals will be a large part of this class. 1-5 Credits

*Prerequisite: Recommendation from the Middle School Music Teacher

DRAMA 1: This course introduces theatre skills to the beginning actor. Students learn the tools of the actor: voice, body, and imagination. Students must be willing to take risks, perform in front of their peers, memorize lines and blocking as well as interact cooperatively with fellow actors.Musical Theater: Designed for students who wish to improve their singing skills and have an interest in music and theater.

Advanced courses with prerequisite or audition requirements for advanced students grades 10-12:

AUTO 1: Covers all basic automotive systems such as, the internal combustion engine. 2nd Semester focuses on Auto Electrical & Basic Engine Performance.

WOODWORKING 1: Students learn the safe use of basic woodworking machines, tools, materials,techniques and processes to produces quality pieces ofwoodwork.

COMPUTER ASSISTED DESIGN & DRAFTING (CAD 1):This introductory course teaches a variety of 2D drafting and computer imaging skills to create 3D models of products, cars and architecture.

Choose three-four of the following: 1. Social Studies

Geography/World Cultures Modern World History

2. Science Earth Science Biology Principles of Biomedical Science (Health Pathways)

3. World Language French or Spanish

4. Visual and Performing Arts Digital Media Art 1 (New Class) Art 1, Art Survey, Photo 1,

Concert Band, Orchestra, Musical Theater (New Class) or Drama 1.

5. Career Technical Education Auto 1, Woodworking 1, or CAD 1

6. Additional: Yearbook, (MJHS Enrollment), Leadership (Application Required)

Do not sign up for an upper level class if your student has not met the prerequisite.
