Doç. olarak akademiye tekrar döndü. 2015’te Munzur Üniversitesi’nde doçentliğini aldı. Master tezini temel alan kitabı (Humanisation Movement) 1999’da, doktora tezinin modife hâli olan kitabı Turkeys Kurds; A Theoretical Analysis of Abdullah Öcalan and the PKK başlığıyla 2006’da yayınlandı. Türkçe çevirisi Türkiye’nin Kürtleri; Kürt Sosyolojisinde PKK ve Öcalan” adıyla Haziran 2014’te yayınlandı. (Bu çalışması, PKK örgütlenmesi üzerine dünyada yapılan ilk sosyoloji doktorasıdır.) Çeşitli uluslararası ve ulusal dergilerde akademik makaleleri yayınlanan Özcan’ın Ortakvatan’ın Sentezmilleti İçin Öcalan’a Mektup adlı ilk Türkçe kitabı 2012’de yayınlandı. Bunu 2014’te “Araf’taki” Çözüm Süreci: Dördüncü Türk-Kürt İttifakı, 2016’da Kandil’in İntiharı: Türk-Kürt Sosyolojisinde Testi Kırılmadan adlı kitapları takip etti.     1959 yılında Tunceli’nin (Dersim) Sülüntaş (Kardere) köyünde doğdu. Orta öğrenimini

    Elazığ'da (1976), lisans eğitimini (M.Ü. İletişim Fakültesi, 1982) İstanbul'da bitirdi. 13 yıllık

    bir aradan sonra yeniden üniversiteye döndü. Siyaset felsefesinde master çalışmasını 1997'de

    (University of Kent, İngiltere) bitirdikten sonra, aynı üniversiteden sosyoloji doktorasını

    2003'de aldı. 7 yıllık ikinci bir aradan sonra (2010) Yrd. Doç. olarak akademiye tekrar döndü.

    2015’te Munzur Üniversitesi’nde doçentliğini aldı.

    Master tezini temel alan kitabı (Humanisation Movement) 1999’da, doktora tezinin

    modife hâli olan kitabı Turkeys Kurds; A Theoretical Analysis of Abdullah Öcalan and the

    PKK başlığıyla 2006’da yayınlandı. Türkçe çevirisi “Türkiye’nin Kürtleri; Kürt

    Sosyolojisinde PKK ve Öcalan” adıyla Haziran 2014’te yayınlandı. (Bu çalışması, PKK

    örgütlenmesi üzerine dünyada yapılan ilk sosyoloji doktorasıdır.) Çeşitli uluslararası ve ulusal

    dergilerde akademik makaleleri yayınlanan Özcan’ın Ortakvatan’ın Sentezmilleti İçin

    Öcalan’a Mektup adlı ilk Türkçe kitabı 2012’de yayınlandı. Bunu 2014’te “Araf’taki” Çözüm

    Süreci: Dördüncü Türk-Kürt İttifakı, 2016’da Kandil’in İntiharı: Türk-Kürt Sosyolojisinde
