Audition Disclaimers

• Please read the entire contents of this packet and complete any and all forms with appropriate signatures and either email to Jonathan Collura at jcollura@cdeducation or mail to: Jonathan Collura, 1285 Zettler Road, Columbus, OH 43227

• All students auditioning must be aware that previous participation in any Bishop Hartley production DOES NOT guarantee you a spot in this show. On the same note, students who held lead roles in past years are NOT guaranteed lead roles for this year.

• There is a lot of new information in the packet that is different than previous shows, so please read thoroughly! We’re having to do things differently, so we all must be on the same page.

• All who are cast are required to pay a “PAY TO PLAY” fee of $60 to participate.

Video Audition InformationMonologue Video Auditions – due Friday, August 21 by 11:59pm

You will submit your monologue audition video to Jonathan Collura.

Please submit your video in one of two ways:

1) Email the video directly to jcollura@cdeducation.org

2) If the file is too large to attach to an email, upload it to YouTube and email the link. MAKE SURE THE VIDEO IS SET TO BE UNLISTED!

There will be a video on both our Instagram (bishop_hartley_theatre) and Facebook (Bishop Hartley High School Theatre) pages that demonstrates how to properly record your audition video. Please watch it! It addresses proper camera angles, how to start the video, and other issues. **If you do not follow the instructions in the video, you may be asked to redo your audition**

Make sure you say the following information in your video:

1) Your first and last name2) Your grade3) The name of your monologue4) Then begin your monologue

**Note: your monologue does NOT need to be fully memorized, but please be familiar with it enough that you are not just reading it from your page. I want to see you perform and show me a strong character!!

You will find on the next 2 pages some monologues you can use for your audition. You are more than welcome to use one of those or pick your own from another source. However, please make sure it is not a super dramatic monologue. Let’s keep it all lighthearted!!

MONOLOGUES

SNOW WHITEI’ve knocked and knocked, and nobody will answer the door! I wonder if this reallyis an empty house. (She sees the table) No, it can’t be; here’s a table laid for one,two, three, four, five, six, seven people. What a tiny table! and what tiny plates anddishes! (She holds one up) It’s like a dolls’ dinner set! This must be a children’shouse! Oh dear! I wish they’d come home! I’m so hungry! Is there anything to eaton the table? (She looks round) Yes, bread and butter and milk. Then I must havesome now, and when the people of the house come home, I’m sure they’ll forgiveme when I tell them I’ve been two days and nights wandering in the forest withnothing to eat but nuts and blackberries! (She holds up a water glass) I don’t callthis glass very clean! It’s all sticky finger- marks outside! And just look at the plates.They’re grimed. And the dust on the table! I can write my name on it with myfinger! Oh dear! (She sits and yawns) I’m dreadfully tired! I think I’ll just sit downand wait till the people of the house come home – and then – I’ll explain – to them(more and more drowsily till she falls asleep in the chair).

WICKED QUEENI am so sick of being called the wicked queen! I am not wicked – I’m obsessive.There’s a big difference. All I ever wanted was to be the fairest in the land. Maybemy way about it was a bit extreme, but that doesn’t make me evil. Do you have anyidea what it’s like to constantly be around someone you know looks better thanyou? It’s terrible! Besides, I was doing a favor for all of humankind. That girl is justtoo happy for her own good! All I’m saying is that it wasn’t completely my fault, butI’m still destined to go down in fairy tale history as “the Wicked Queen”.

MOTHER QUEENI want you to get married. How many times have I said to you I want you to getmarried? Only this morning I was saying to your father, I said, “Sextimus, I want thatboy to get married. It just isn’t normal for a boy that age to stay single,” I said. “Afterall, he’s a prince, don’t forget that, and he is next in line for the throne. I mean, we’renot exactly the oldest people in the world, but on the other hand, we’re not goingto live forever and I would just feel much better, much easier, and much morerelaxed in my mind if I knew that that boy were married, settled, and set.” Andthat’s absolutely verbatim, exactly what I said to your father this morning. Ofcourse, he didn’t say anything, he never does, but you know him just as well as I do,and I don’t have to tell you how impossible he is. Marriage is a lifetime partnershipand I wouldn’t want my little boy to make the same mistake I did and wind upmiserable the way I did. You are a prince, and you must marry someone suitable,someone who’s good enough, smart enough, and fine enough for my good, nice,sweet, beautiful baby boy. And of course, she has to be a princess, I mean a realprincess. And that is what you want, isn’t it? Someone like me? Of course you do.Just remember this, you must trust me.

MONOLOGUES (continued)

THE FROG PRINCEHello. My name is Prince Frederick and I am a…a fly addict. It’s all my father’s fault.No, really. I’m not just trying to blame someone else. You see, when he made up thelist for my christening, he made a slight error. He left my godmother off the list andshe got a little…upset. She sort of flew off the handle and turned me into a frog. Shehas since sought therapy to try and find better ways of dealing with her stress.Anyway, I had to get a beautiful princess to kiss me so that I could turn back tonormal. You can imagine the line of them just waiting to do so. It took me twentyyears, but I finally found one willing to kiss my slimy frog lips. After mytransformation, we were married and supposed to live happily ever after.Unfortunately, she broke up with me because of my addiction. Well, that and thelily pads in the bathtub drain.

THE KINGYou say the king should have the highest respect in his kingdom? I agree. I am theking, and I shall have your respect! A king’s head should be the highest in hiskingdom – so sit down already! I can’t stand forever. Now I will tell you why I want tobe respected. Not because I was born with royal blood, or that I own the most land,or have the most political power – no! Justice! Above all justice! This king will berespected because his people know that their king will keep them safe and bringjustice to those who steal from the weak! Justice for my people!

THE NOBLE PRINCEAren't there any normal princesses out there?? I’d like to meet a princess whoactually likes me for me - not just because I came valiantly to her rescue. A princesswho reads by the hour because she likes books! Not because she’s been locked in atower for years. That would be refreshing! A princess who hides her beautiful face inashes and pretends to be a maid until I throw a ball, and then suddenly there sheappears - only to disappear again. I mean some guys think that’s interesting - butI’d like to actually finish our dance and say good night? And then really! You thinkthe best way to meet me is to eat a poison apple and get your seven best friends toput you in a glass coffin! A simple, “Hi, my name is Snow White” would work justfine for me! Really! (Prince hears something) Oh no! Gotta run. Another princess introuble!

Callbacks

If callbacks are needed, you will receive an email informing you. I may just needto hear more from you for different roles.

If we need to do callbacks, I will include a copy of the script in the email. You willread for certain characters, and I will read for the other characters in the scene.Your individual callbacks will be very short, so not a lot of time commitmentrequired!

Also included in that email will be a time that I would like to do a Zoom Meetingas your callback. They will all take place on Monday, August 24. I will send out theschedule in the email, so please let me know if you have a conflict with the time Iassign you! We will figure it out!

Please note – if you do not receive a callback, that does not necessarily mean youare not cast.

If I find that I do not need to hold callbacks, I will inform you all by email as well, soyou know what’s going on!

Rehearsal Attendance and Behavior Policy

We are in the middle of some weird times right now, and rehearsals are going tobe done quite differently for this first show.

Many of the rehearsals during the first part of this process will be done virtually viaZOOM. During these Zoom rehearsals, please be in a room free of as manydistractions as possible. Make sure you have the camera at a good angle, and youhave enough lighting that we can all see you.

We will have a few in-person rehearsals once we start staging the scenes.Weather permitting, almost all of these rehearsals will take place outside. We willkeep the indoor rehearsals to emergency cases. Whether we are outdoors orindoors, you will be required to wear a mask during rehearsals and to keep a safedistance between everybody.

If you are called to a in-person rehearsal and you are not feeling well AT ALL,please do not come.

A rehearsal schedule will be given after the show is cast. But the general timeframe for rehearsals will be 3:30-5:30pm for in-person rehearsals, and 3:45-5:45pmfor Zoom rehearsals to allow a little more time for you to get home after school.

Misconduct at rehearsals will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, destruction of props, horse-play, and disrespect of ALL individuals involved.

Filming

This production of ALICE IN WONDERLAND is going to be filmed like a movie andstreamed online for audiences to view via a password protected platform.

We are going to collaborate with Mr. Jahahn’s Video Production class on thisproject! It’ll be a fun learning experience for all involved!

Most of the scenes will be recorded at Jefferson Country Club Golf Course. It is abeautiful open land with many spots to record the different scenes. There will beone or two scenes that will have to be filmed in Gahanna because of specific setrequirements.

A filming schedule will be released as soon as we can!

Pay to Play

If you are cast, you are required to pay a $60 Pay to Play fee. This will be due byFRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4. This fee goes towards helping pay of the rights of theshow, some costumes, props, set pieces, and other financial needs. This does NOTpay for the show shirt that students have the option to purchase. If you do not payby the due date, you may not participate until it is paid. If you do not pay byFRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, you will be dismissed from the cast. Of course, exceptionscan be made if you make arrangements with Mr. Collura PRIOR to theSEPTEMBER 4 deadline.

*Please note that while this fee helps pay for some things,students may be asked to provide some costume pieces.

If you are cast, please make it a habit to check your email on a daily basis, if notmultiple times a day. All announcements and information will be given via email.If you do not have easy access to check your email, please inform the director andarrangements will be made to get you all announcements.
