Slowing things down and paying attention to each aspect of our sensory experience can reveal things we may have never noticed before.

This week we will do a simple exercise involving “mindful” eating !!

This exercise will allow you to see how something as simple as eating can be dramatically different if we bring a different approach to it

If being mindful can so transform our experience of eating, what could it do for the experience of a sad mood?

If we can be present for it, with it, and during it, we could bring to that sad mood a mind that is ready to experience just that moment, with no

presuppositions or assumptions about it whatsoever

Eventually, we can reach a point where every moment of sadness is no longer experienced as a whole life that’s going badly –

but just as a moment that feels sad

We can learn to recognise that thoughts involve interpretations and judgments,

which are not facts

We can learn to observe our thoughts and our feelings as experiences which come and go in the

mind

We can “be” with our experiences just as they are – Not looking to change them or avoid them

Just accepting them

This shift in awareness allows the current moment to be experienced and at the same time in one stroke cuts through the source of the additional unhappiness that normally follows…..
