Scanning Resolutions
• Gold Standard for color photo prints is 300 pixels perinch. Nothing above that matters.
• Excellent prints can have 200 pixels per inch.
• Prints with 150 or less pixels per inch are somewhatpoorer quality.
• When scanning black and white documents, normally200 pixels per inch is fine.
• Remember that DPI and PPI are the same thing for allpractical purposes.

There are many good scanners; thetechnology is pretty well established. Go to Newegg.com for excellent pricing and
selection. Major brands are Epson, Canon and HP. Higher priced scanners have more features
and scan faster. All in one scanners are OK, but be certain you
have the flexibility set scanning resolution.Some only have an “automatic mode.”

If you plan on scanning slides or negatives find out howmany the scanner can scan at once. If you plan on scanning large format negatives, be sure
the scanner has a large backlight (mine only has abacklight for 35mm slides and negatives). Digital Ice is software to remove dust and scratches
from slides and negatives. It is only available on themore expensive scanners -- $200 and up.
