October is Bully Prevention Month
Let’s recap some more key points that we have learned during Bully Prevention Month: * Conflict can lead to bullying. Finding peaceful ways to resolve conflict can stop future problems. * Peer pressure can sometimes lead to bullying but positive peer pressure can influence kids to stop bullying * It’s important for adults to listen to kids when they are being bullied. Kids need to know that their feelings will be taken seriously by adults. * Contrary to what some people say, bullying is not something that can be solved by fighting back or ignoring. * Some facts about bullying include:
- 20% of middle school students are bullied - 30% admit to bullying others - 70% have witnessed bullying
- Bullying stops within 10 seconds over half the time when a bystander does something to help
* If students decide to speak out together, we can create a school without bullying
