I. SERIOUS PRAYER IS RECOGNIZING OUR NEED TO ASK GOD FOR

GUIDANCE AND PROTECTION.

II. SERIOUS PRAYER AND FASTING IS MAKING SPIRITUAL PREPARATIONS

BEFORE MAKING PHYSICAL PREPARATIONS.

• Shows dependence on God for protection.

• Shows faith that God is in control.

• Shows affirmation that we’re not strong enough or wise enough to

make decisions or a journey without Him.

• Shows that one is taking the time to put God first in preparing well for

whatever lies ahead.

• Shows that one does not take the promises of God for granted.

• Acknowledges that God’s Blessings are appropriated through prayer.

III. SERIOUS PRAYER AND FASTING IS HUMBLING.

• Fasting is a reminder of complete dependence on God.

• Fasting gives more time to pray and meditate on God.

IV. SERIOUS PRAYER REQUIRES CONCENTRATION.

• Get’s one in touch with God’s will.

• Can bring real change in one’s life.

• Guards against superficiality and the idea of a quick fix.

V. SERIOUS PRAYER TELLS EVERYONE THAT YOU WORSHIP A GRACIOUS

GOD WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU.
