I n a first for the American-grown, extra-long staple cotton organization, Supima took center stage in the art world sponsoring Marseille-based artist, Adrien Ves-covi’s exhibition at famed Palais de Tokyo in Paris, France.

Supima continues its effort to support and promote young artists around the world. From its 12th installment of the Supima Design Competition to the 2nd annual international Supima Design Lab, Supima has been at the forefront of bringing fashion, art and design together through the medium of premium, American-grown Supima cotton.

Supima had originally met and worked with Vescovi during the International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories of Hyères where Vescovi presented a one-of-a-kind instillation using Supima cotton. Honored to be included in this premiere exhibition, Vescovi enlisted the support of Supima cotton to help make it happen. The artwork featured a series of massive canvases created from Supima cotton and dyed, creating two 23 foot high canvases prominently showcased as one of the centerpieces of a larger group exhibition. “These colors compose infinities, imaginaries and irrational landscapes, Supima cotton is adding value to my work. A simple pigment of color transforms the fabric to a leather impression “ says artist, Adrien Vescovi. “The eco responsibility of the cotton’s production is an important argument to me.“

The exhibition Future, Former, Fugitive is devoted to “a French scene” and is based on an open concept of topographical placement. The exhibit brings together artists born in France and abroad, living in France or elsewhere linked temporarily or enduringly to France. Paying homage to the country’s geography, Vescovi named the work, “Land I, II, III, 2019”, “these colors compose infinities, imaginaries and irrational landscapes” says Vescovi.

Admired for their less is more

approach to crafting premium denim, Na-

ked & Famous continues to show the world that in-

novation, exclusive Japanese fabrics and top-quality crafts-

manship are all it takes to construct the perfect pair of jeans. Founded

in 2008 by Canadian native Brandon Svarc, Naked & Famous has been chal-

lenging the status quo of building a premium denim brand, focusing solely on the product

and forgoing the traditional route of celebrity endorsements and irreverent ad campaigns.

In addition to their seasonal collections, Na-ked & Famous has garnered a loyal following for their limited-edition releases that constantly push the boundaries of raw denim striving to create a unique experience for the consumer.

For fall, Naked & Famous is releasing the Elephant 8 Supima Soft Selvedge series. The collection features jeans in three distinct fits including the Super Guy, Weird Guy and Easy Guy jeans, and a must-have classic denim jack-et. Made using 100% American-grown Supima cotton, the Elephant 8 collection is crafted in Canada and woven on vintage shuttle looms. Each piece features 21oz. heavyweight Japa-nese selvedge denim with an indigo warp, white weft, and red line selvedge ID with contrast stitching, a heavy roughout leather patch, and silver metallic buttons and rivets.

Wanting to shine the light on each individual style, Naked & Famous has staggered the re-lease of The Elephant 8 Supima Soft Selvedge collection.

Can you tell us a little bit about Buhler Yarns and your point of difference?

David Sasso: Buhler has earned the reputation as the spinner of high quality Supima yarns in the US and Latin America. Over the years, we learned how to do “supply chain” selling because we understand that we compete on the garment basis and not so much on the yarn. What are some of the challenges of doing business in today’s fast fashion/ global economy?

DS: The lack of understanding at the retail level regarding total cost of a garment influences the sourcing decisions and fiber selection in the wrong way. Keep in mind Buhler does business in the mid-to- high-end retail price points. This is the area most affected by tariffs and lack of speed. We need our supply chain partners and brands/retailers to collaborate to make better products and to understand true costs. How does Buhler help brands navigate the Made in the USA supply chain?

DS: Connectivity. We have a great network of manufacturers and also leverage our membership at AAPN and CCI. (American Apparel and Producer’s Network) (Cotton Council International)Buhler and Supima have a long history together can you share some insight on the partnership and how it has evolved over the years?

DS: Buhler and Supima need each other. Together we tell the right story that is pertinent to the market. We are in the western hemisphere and offer Supima cotton yarns to the region. Because of our size, Supima is our passion and niche. It is not easy to spin Supima, but when it is done right, it is special. How has the Supima brand evolved over the years?

DS: Supima cotton has been able to reach far more markets than ever before. It has become the fiber of choice not only because of its prop-erties but also the confidence that it instills in the supply chain. This will need to continue to evolve because there are still bad actors out there. What are some of the main attributes of Supima cotton that resonate most with your customers?

DS: Strength, softness, and brilliance of color. What is becoming more into play is its longevity in garments. The longer you can wear the garment you love, the more sustainable that product becomes. What are some of the technical advancements that Buhler employs? Are there any new products in the pipeline?

DS: We are introducing Supima in an Air Jet version we call Ecosil. This spin system pushes the boundaries even further for a sustainable garment. Our spin system along with “processing know-How” allows us to offer a low fabric pill, low fabric torque, and a low carbon footprint option.

With a pedigree that spans over 200 years and two continents, Buhler Quality Yarns has been a leader in the American man-

ufacturing industry since HERMANN BUHLER AG opened its North American subsidiary in 1996. Considered to be the

foremost supplier of fine-count yarns throughout the United States, Buhler is committed to delivering premium quality domestic

production and top-notch customer service.

We recently sat down with David Sasso, Vice President, Sales for Buhler Yarns for his perspective on the current state of the in-

dustry and the importance of premium fibers in today’s competitive market.

he journey never ends for Supima. Fresh off the success of crowning the winner of the 2019 Supima Design Competition during New York Fashion Week, Supima packed its bags and headed to Paris, France for the second annual Supima Design Lab program.

Held during Paris Fashion Week, the Supima Design Lab doubled-down on its program to showcase both established and up-and-coming designers from around the world and present the international fashion community with innovation, sustainable fashion designs that emphasize the versatility and premium attributes of American-grown Supima cotton.

Held at the landmark Hotel de Talleyrand guests were treated to an evening of fashion, music and food and all things Supima cotton. “We are seeing the benefits of our partnerships with the European fashion industry,” states Buxton Midyette, Vice President of Marketing and Promotions for Supima. This year’s participants included leading international designers, winners of 2019 Hyeres International Festival of Fashion and Photography and the finalists of the 2019 Supima Design Competition, including winner Gina Zinan Guo. Each design was created exclusively for the Supima Design Lab using 100% American-grown Supima cotton.
