Dave Colee, CLU, Master of Ceremonies Dave Colee is a native of Central Illinois who graduated from Illinois State University in 1972 with a BS in Social Science Education. He earned his MS in History in 1982.

Dave worked at ISU for fifteen years in the areas of Housing and Admissions and Records. In 1988, Dave began a career at State Farm Insurance where besides his regular duties coordinating airlines, hotels, car rentals and com-pany fleet, he became “The voice of State Farm,” informing employees about tornados, snow storms, bomb threats, fire drills and even the “I love you” virus.

Dave began his Public Address announcing career in 1978 when his good friend Steve Adams asked him to assist at ISU football and basketball games. For the past 34 years, Dave has been “The Voice of the Big Red Marching Machine,” and for the past 17 years, the voice of the ISU women’s basketball team.

Dave has announced in front of 62,000 fans at Soldier Field in Chicago, Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the Ed-ward Jones Dome in St. Louis and Milwaukee County Stadium. His PA travels have taken him to the Macy’s Thanks-giving Day Parade in New York City and the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ireland.

Dave retired from State Farm in 2010, but remains active in the community working on the Central Illinois Regional Airport Authority Board, playing golf, bowling, pool and lots of travel with his wife, Sandy.

Adam Bennington, Analyst, State Farm IT Research and DevelopmentAdam is currently an IT Analyst at State Farm, where he serves as a publicist and research librarian in IT Research and Development. His responsibilities include staying abreast of the latest technologies to impact the insurance industry, understanding how State Farm’s IT Research & Development department is exploring those technologies, and helping others find and organize information on a variety of technology topics.

Prior to his current role he served as an Emerging Technology specialist in the Enterprise Internet Solutions depart-ment, and has 14 years of experience in providing research assistance on technology and business topics.

Adam obtained his bachelor’s degree in history from MacMurray College and has Master’s degrees in History and Library and Informational Science from Illinois State University and the University of Illinois, respectively. He has also obtained his Chartered Financial Consultant designation from the American College.

Julia A. Molander, Member, Cozen O’Connor Julia is an attorney with the law firm of Cozen O’Connor and has represented the insurance industry for more than 35 years. She specializes in large loss matters and strategic management of insurance risk on an enterprise-wide basis, including coverage advice, regulatory work, and litigation. She has handled insurance issues for auto and trucking insurers. Early in her career, Julia interned at a trucking company and with the U.S. Department of Trans-portation’s National Highway Safety Administration working on special projects involving highway safety issues.

Julia obtained her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and went on to obtain her law degree from Stan-ford Law School in Palo Alto, Calif. She is recognized by Best’s and by Chambers USA as one of the outstanding lawyers in the insurance practice. She has been rated by Martindale Hubbell as an AV Pre-eminent Lawyer for more than 25 years. She has been elected to the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel, and to the Litigation Institute of America. She is a former chair of the Insurance Law Committee, and is a vice-chair of the ABA Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee. She has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” for more than a decade.

She regularly publishes articles on cutting edge issues, including a recent article on robotic automobiles published in the DRI journal For the Defense entitled “Driverless Vehicles and the Impact on Insurance” (May 2016).

kers EllaKate LeFebre, Analyst, State Farm Innovation Team

EllaKate joined the Innovation Team at State Farm in May 2014 in an area that focuses on bringing new and tested ideas to market. Through that work EllaKate has the opportunity to examine and study emerging technologies and trends that impact the Insurance and Financial Services marketplace, as well as help design and test solutions to allow State Farm to stay on the forefront of these technologies and trends. Prior to her current role on the Innovation Team, EllaKate interned with the State Farm Marketing Department as well as the Innovation Team.

As a Michigan native, EllaKate graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Communication. During her experience at Michigan State University, EllaKate served as a Research Assistant in the College of Communica-tion Arts and Sciences, as well as a Board Member of the State Farm Youth Advisory Board – a board of thirty youth from across the country charged with implementing a $5 million philanthropic grant budget.

In addition to working in the world of Innovation, EllaKate volunteers her time with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mc-Lean County and the Michigan Youth Leadership Training Camp - a camp designed for youth 9th through 12th grade to become impactful leaders in their schools and communities.

Michael McGrory, Partner, SmithAmundsen Law FirmMike is a partner at SmithAmundsen Law Firm in Chicago, advising medical cannabis industry clients throughout the country on a wide variety of legal issues. He also handles commercial litigation and other dispute resolution needs for clients in other industries, particularly insurance and aviation. Prior to entering private practice, he served as a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney.

Mike attended law school at DePaul after receiving his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University. In 2014, he was named a “40 Under 40 Illinois Attorney to Watch” by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. Mike has published articles about medical marijuana law in Marijuana Business Daily and Marijuana Industry News. Mike has also been invited to present on the medical cannabis industry’s legal challenges to groups including the Marijuana Investor Summit, the Chicago Cannabis Conference, the Illinois Cannabis Industry Association, the Association of Lloyds Brokers, the Chicago Bar Association, PLUS, the Chicago Healthcare Risk Management Society, and the Katie School of Insur-ance.

Mike sits on the board of directors of Mental Health America of Illinois, and is a former Commissioner for the Village of Homewood’s Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. He has also held leadership positions with the Chicago Bar Association, the Aviation Insurance Association, and the Defense Research Institute. He is a founding member of the Illinois Cannabis Bar Association, and a member of both the National Cannabis Industry Association and the Illinois Cannabis Industry Association.

kers David P. Thomas, CPCU, Vice President of Sales, The Institutes

David is Vice President of Sales for The Institutes. He manages the activities of the regional sales account execu-tives worldwide and partners with risk management and insurance industry customers to identify and close knowl-edge gaps critical to their business results and success.

David works with customer HR and L&D organizations to develop and implement career education planning using a mix of credentialing and certification programs as well as just-in-time learning content in alignment with customer corporate strategy. Thomas also represents The Institutes at industry events, identifies new growth opportunities, and contributes to The Institutes’ solution development agenda. He works with organizations in The United States of America, United Kingdom and Bermuda.

Before joining The Institutes in 1999, David’s previous work experience includes positions with The Vanguard Group of Investment Companies, Towers Perrin Reinsurance, the National Insurance Crime Bureau, and The Ohio Casualty Group.

He received a BS degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing from the West Chester Univer-sity of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Villanova University. He earned the CPCU designation in 1995. Thomas is a member of the CPCU Society and the Society of Insurance Trainers and Educators (SITE).

Deirdre K. Manna, Vice President, Property Casualty Insurers Association of America Deirdre received her bachelor’s degree from Drake University, and is currently the Vice President of Political Engage-ment and Regulatory Affairs at PCI. She has over 20 years’ experience in developing and advancing state public policy initiatives affecting the insurance industry.

Prior to joining PCI she was a lobbyist for Dykema Gossett, PLLC. Before that she was acting Director of the Illinois Division of Insurance, where she was responsible for regulating the insurance industry’s market behavior and finan-cial solvency, as well as providing expert witness and legislative testimony on insurance issues including numerous aspects of life-health and property-casualty lines. She served as Chairman for the Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan Board and represented Illinois before the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Deirdre also served as Assistant Vice President of the American Insurance Association, where she developed and implemented successful legislative strategy on issues such as taxation, privacy, workers’ compensation, financial services moderation, community reinvestment, compliance, guaranty funds and terrorism insurance.

Stanley W. Plappert, CPCU, ChFC, CLU, ARM, JD, Secretary-Treasurer of the CPCU Leadership CouncilStan has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, working for various companies in Illinois, Indiana, and Florida including Church Mutual Insurance, Inc. (Regional Representative), Gibson Insurance Agency (VP Com-mercial Sales), Collier Insurance Service, Inc, (President) and is currently the President of Plappert Insurance Group, Inc.

Stan received his bachelor’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan University, a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Illinois State University, and a Juris Doctorate from Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida.

Stan has served the CPCU Society nationally since 1992 and is currently the Secretary-Treasurer of the Leadership Council. He also serves on the Executive Committee.

Roni, Manager-Enterprise Compliance & Ethics, began her State Farm career nineteen years ago in the Flori-da Zone. She earned her CPCU designation in 2004 and was an active board member of the Cypress Gardens CPCU Society Chapter until relocating to Bloomington in 2013.

Since then, Roni has served on the board of the Central Illinois CPCU Society Chapter and currently serves as President. She has experience in Claims, Underwriting, Planning & Analysis, and Enterprise Compliance & Ethics.

As an emerging leader in the marketplace, Ray’s amazing and uncanny ability to entertain while delivering a profound message of desire, discipline and dedication has impacted the lives of thousands regardless of gender, age, or profession. Ray’s fire for seeing individuals, companies, and organizations take their prospective businesses to the next level comes from his athletic background spending six seasons in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions, and the Chicago Bears. A native of Chicago and graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Ray also served as Team Chaplain for the Chicago Bears Organization from 2008-2013.

In addition to his speaking profession, Ray is devoting his post football career to empowering youth, transforming lives, and making a difference one life and community at a time through his non-profit organization, A Ray of Hope on Earth. If that isn’t enough, his newly developed venture is the lifestyle elevation program, Ascender. Through this initiative, Ray and his wife Michelle, are coaching professional athletes and their spouses; equipping them to transition and ascend from sports to their next exciting career more successfully. Whether he is educating and inspiring listeners on how to navigate through the field of life during his weekly radio segment, “Score”, delivering an encouraging word on game day to NFL players, or challenging businesses on how to boldly go where they ha-ven’t gone before, Ray is truly committed to delivering tangible, life-changing results to whomever he is in front of.

Antitrust Compliance StatementMarch 4, 1996From time to time, program speakers will appear at chapter meetings and present points of view with which the chapter’s members and leadership do not agree. The Central Illinois Chapter of CPCU would like to make it clear that, as an educational organization, it fosters the exchange of views on subjects which are of interest to its members and the insurance industry. At the same time, the Chapter must guard jealously its neutral status on matters that may have a very material impact on their member sponsoring companies.

The chapter will not allow speakers, members, or guests to advocate any conduct which may en-courage the violation of antitrust and other regulatory laws applicable to insurers here in the State of Illinois. Any indication that the Chapter facilities are being used for an improper purpose will prompt the chapter, through its leadership, to disavow any illicit activity. That may even include a call to ad-journ. Examples of possible violations include the exchange of proposed rates, underwriting guide-lines, and dealings with suppliers providing goods and services used in the resolution of pending claims. Members employed by companies having more explicit statements dealing with these issues are encouraged to refer to them for further guidance.

Suggestions/Comments Registrants will receive a survey following the event so the Chapter can continue to improve our annual All Industry Day.
