WELCOME TOTHE SHOW!

APPROVED BY

NAPHAAPPROVED BY

PHACGreetings exhibitors! The Board of the Northwest Peruvian Horse Club, and the Show

Committee, welcome you. We are proud to host the 38th annual, Northwest RegionalChampionships, one of the longest running Peruvian Horse Shows in North America!

This show, is drug free. NAPHA has changed its drug policy. Previously there was a "zerotolerance” rule for positive test results, coupled with a 7 day recommendation for non-use prior to ashow. With testing procedures becoming more finite, NAPHA recognizes the inappriateness of thatpolicy. NAPHA now defers to the USEF rules. While there may be a "positive" test, the potentialexists for the displayed amount to be far less than therapeutic levels, and not to a degree that can maskinjury nor enhance performance. Additionally, 4 vials will now be pulled for additional tests as need-ed. This adheres to the standard of NET (no effect threshold,) testing. The NPHC welcomes thischange, since it avoids punishing exhibitors, and their animals, for administering needed therapeuticmedications, weeks prior to the show. Many medications, such as phenylbutazone, are measurable inthe bloodstream by modern techniques, such as HPLC, many weeks after administration, when theability of the drug to affect performance has long since dissipated. USEF drug guidelines can be seenhere:http://www.napha.net/documents/forms/2017_USEF_DrugsMedications_Guidelines.pdf Complete NAPHA Rules for 2019:http://www.napha.net/documents/shows/2019Jan_NAPHA_ShowRules.pdfRule changes for 2019:http://www.napha.net/documents/shows/2019Jan_NAPHA_ShowRules_update.pdf

PLEASE WELCOME OUR JUDGE SR. MARIANO CABRERA GANOZA:Our judge this year is the Honorable Mariano Cabrera Ganoza. Sr Cabrera is a

well-known breeder of Peruvian Horses, and the producer of a television program about thePeruvian Horse, on Panamerican television. His relationship with Peruvians started in hisyouth, with his grandfather, a breder of Peruvian Horses in Ica. His father won Championof Champions Breeding Stallion with Señoron, the first time in the ten years of the showthat a horse with southern bloodlines won Champion of Champions. Sr. Cabrera has a truepassion for the Peruvian Horse, and has fond memories of long rides in the countryside. Heattributes this passion to his mentor and teacher, Fito Matellini. We are priviledged to haveSr. Cabrera judging our show this year.

It will be a great show, and whether you bring one horse or ten, we predict you will enjoyit. To encourage participants new to the show ring, we are offering free entry into the Novice HorseTrail class, # 27, and one other non-qualifier. (see page 8)
