Participants will: understand the importance of fostering multimodal communication; be familiar with a range of emergent, entry, intermediate and advanced AAC devices and understand how student's skills are matched with tools; be familiar with and know how to support a range of strategies or teaching methods that are used to support the development of skills and communication competence with AAC tools or devices and be able to effectively participate in supporting a student's collaborative plan.

AUGMENTATIVE ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION (AAC) IMPLEMENTATION: TIER 2AAC Implementation is designed to build the knowledge and skill of speech-language pathologists and SLPAs who can guide individual student teams in selecting appropriate tools and strategies, and developing effective Student Access Plans for students with complex communication needs.

Amplify and accelerate instruction through the California State University course, Expository Reading and Writing Course. ERWC is aligned with Common Core State Standards and emphasizes critical thinking, analytical reading of complex expository texts and argumentative writing. Dr. Tompkins is a licensed psychologist, a founding partner of the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy, Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, Berkeley and a Diplomat and Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Tompkins specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders in adults, adolescents and children.

COGNITIVE-BEHAVIOR THERAPY FOR ANXIOUS YOUTH

Anxiety disorders effect 10-20% of school-age youth and is the most common mental health problem for this group.
