What a wonderful spectacle it was to see the array of treasures we saw on parade on Monday morning as students (and staff!) embraced the celebration of Book Week. From the Principal…

Dear Parents/Carers Ahoy there, me hearties! What a wonderful spectacle it was to see the array of treasures we saw on parade on Monday morning as students (and staff!) embraced the celebration of Book Week . With the theme of ‘Find Your Treasure’, this year’s Book Week is about celebrating the treasures to be found in reading. FOOTSTEPS DANCE LESSONS This week, Newtown State School students will commence participation in a 4 week dance program as part of curriculum in the Arts. Each class will join in a half-hour lesson each Thursday. Remember to ask them to demonstrate some of their new moves for you! This experience is being funded from both school and P&C funds and every student will get to participate. Thanks to our hardworking P&C members and our school community for supporting its endeavours so that this fun and engaging way to learn dance can be provided, at no direct cost to students and families.

Kind Regards Tania Angus , Principal. STAFFING UPDATE This week we welcome Gail Dinsey to Newtown State School as she takes up the position of acting Business Services Manager. I know that Gail will quickly feel the hospitable embrace of our vibrant team and school community. BEDAZZLED NUMBER 1! The Bedazzled Number 1 this week was awarded to the class who saw the most participation in the ‘free dress for farmers’ last week . In third place, with 75% was 2/3R, in second place, with 79.2% was 6M and in first place, with 81.8% participation was 1R!!!!

Congratulations 1R!

A total of $615 was raised by our school community

which is going towards ‘Drought Angels’.

Thank-you so very much for your generosity

with this very worthwhile cause.

LOST PROPERTY IS OVERFLOWING!!!!! It’s not that surprising to see a number of students wearing non-uniform jackets to school at the moment with the large number of un-named items overflowing the lost property bin. Please name all uniform items. It is also timely therefore, to remind students, parents and carers of the expectations around the school uniform . Newtown State School has an approved school uniform and all students are expected to wear it everyday. You may recall parents enrol their child at this school on the understanding that the full uniform will be worn at all times. The wearing of a school uniform encourages school spirit and sense of identity and prevents discrimination in respect to the quality or fashion of clothing. It also acts as a safety mechanism for easily identifying Newtown State School students, both when at school and when on an excursion. SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY WEEK! As it’s ‘Speech Language Pathology Week’, it’s timely to say ‘thanks’ to our fabulous Speech Language Pathologist, Monica Nightingale , who does a fantastic job leading the early identification of, and designing intervention for those students with speech language needs. Thanks also to the team of staff who implement these interventions that provide a foundation for other learning. LAST CHANCE TO HAVE A SAY – SCHOOL OPINION SURVEY The annual School Opinion Survey is now open online and will close on 24 August. All families and school staff are invited to take part and a representative sample of year five and six students will complete the survey at school. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what this school does well and how this school can improve. You should have received online access details for the Parent/Caregiver Survey last week. Parents/caregivers may arrange for online access at the school if it is unavailable at home.

Thank You Mr Blacker for installing our new signs!

We have new signs around the school displaying the school values and the

handball rules. These will help us all to be responsible

for our behaviours at school.

Thank you. PBL Committee

Positive Behaviour for Learning News

This week the PBL lesson focus is waiting

patiently. We encourage students to wait patiently

when

• Wanting to speak to an adult or friend

• Using the equipment

• Going to the toilet or getting a drink

• Lining up

At home, encourage children to wait rather than

interrupt someone. Model that behaviour yourself at

home and remember to thank your child when they

behave politely.
