Altar Society News!

The Altar Society will hold our first fall meeting on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in the conference room in

the administrative building at 9:30. Father Bill will be joining us. All members are urged to attend. We are

looking forward to a great year with lots of fun, baking, cleaning and a lot of prayer. We have signed up twelve

new members this summer. See you at the meeting.!

????Where are the prayers of the people?????

If you have been looking through the hymnal trying to find the prayers of the people for mass and have been un-successful, here is the answer to that. All the prayers for the people are on the first page of the hymnal. Also the readings are always posted in the worship which should be in every hymnal all though they do get misplaced over a peri-od of time. The readings are at the top of each section of the wor-ship aid next to the date. Also the cantor will announce the page numbers as well. We hope this little note is helpful.

Pastor’s Chronicle

Today’s gospel story from of Jesus healing the deaf mute provides an opportunity for us to reflect upon the gifts of speech and hearing and how we use them [Mk 7: 31 – 37]. It is only natural that we take for granted our ability to hear and our ability to speak. It is natural, but not right. Our ability to speak and to hear is a great power for which we ought to be grateful, and the best way to be grateful is by using our abilities for good purposes as God intended. The power to speak is one of the abilities we have that separates us from the animals. Yet, we abuse the pow-er of speech when we use it to tell a lie, or to spread ugly rumors and demeaning gossip. Speech, after all, is intended to communicate truth and goodness, not lies and hatred. Our ability to hear should be used sensibly by not encouraging another’s abuse of speech by listening with a willing ear to some gossip, or by lyrics to songs that are crude, racist, demeaning to others, and sexually pro-vocative. The misuse of the gifts of speech and hearing are sins against the 8th Commandment: “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” Whenever we come to participate in the Mass, we hear the Word of God in the scriptures. We must open our ears in faith and actively listen to what God is saying to you. And, once we’ve heard the Word of God we respond by means of our power of speech through the responsorial psalm, the general intercessions, and com-mon prayers like the Our Father. Our powers of speech and hearing are holy gifts that we should never abuse or take for granted.

Fr. Bill

Padre Bill
