Remembering Cecilia Garcia

On Sunday, September 6th our beloved Cecilia Garcia was called by our Lord, for she was needed in heaven.

Cecilia became the Pastoral Assistant in 2012 and was

loved by many. Her beautiful spirit brought joy to many of our parishioners and even residences in the heights. She

was so giving and would work all day and even all night to make sure everything at our parish was great!

SHE LOVED HER JOB!

Though we feel she was taken too soon, we all must remember that our Lord had something special planned for

our beloved Cecilia and has been prepping her for this moment.

We ask that you please continue to pray for Cecilia’s Family; to give them the strength they need to move

forward.

The All Saints Family will never forget her and we know her spirit will always be with us. We love you Cecilia and

we will always remember you!

Pastor’s Chronicle

To win a game, you have to know the rules. In golf, the person with the highest score is not the winner. In pool, no matter how successfully or skillfully it is done, nothing is gained by hitting the cue ball into a pock-et. Now this need to know the rules applies equally to Christian discipleship in life, and seems to be the point of today’s gospel passage in which Jesus speaks of his own suffering and death and of the demands of disci-pleship. [Mk 8: 27-35] Peter tries to take him aside and protest Jesus talking like that. Peter misread the rules. He thought the Messiah would come and be a political power and Jesus corrects him and says messiahship means obedience to the will of God---even to the wood of the cross. Spiritual writers help us understand the rules of discipleship using the image of two ways, the “way of the Lord,” and “way of the world.” The “way of the world” tells us that we should look out for only ourselves (Number One) for that is the surest path to success. Climbing the ladder at any cost advancing in the company by stepping on those around us, or getting ahead in school by cheating or stealing some else’s answers or work. That is not the path of Christian discipleship! Indeed such success is like having the highest score in the game of golf. The “way of the Lord,” is more positive, and helps us to rediscover the meaning of Jesus’ words. A helpful tool is to think about ways you already are acting in a self-denying role. In your role as parent you give up a night’s sleep to nurse a sick child. Or as a teenager you give up a Sunday afternoon football on t.v. to visit an aging grandparent. In both these roles of parent and young person one is acting unselfishly, one is emptying themselves to fill the need of another person. Making another Number One is a key rule of disci-pleship. And that is the acid test of Christian discipleship: not pious words, but heartfelt deeds, not winning at any cost, but succeeding in bringing to all people the transforming love of Jesus Christ. Now that is a win-ning game plan!

Fr. Padre Bill
