Welcome to Mass today at All Saints,
Albany Creek. In the early Church, one of
the things that astonished the pagans about
the early Christians was their enduring
hope as they looked forward to the return of
Jesus. Suffering and persecution often
strengthened their hope. Their constant
prayer was “Come Lord Jesus”. Christian
hope means more than having a cheerful
outlook. It is founded on a unique reality,
the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.
That mighty event is the triumph of his love,
and his victory over death. Because Jesus
rose, his loyal followers will also rise.
At the second coming on the last day, Jesus
will not only come in majesty to judge the
world, but also to establish the Kingdom of
God in glory. This is a reality we pray for
daily with the words: “Thy Kingdom come.”

SVDP Christmas Appeal The 2017 Vinnies Christmas Appeal has been officially launched. The concept for this year’s Christmas Appeal is ‘You Can Make Christmas Wishes Come True’ for the thousands of Australian families experiencing disadvantage this Christmas. Help us rebuild the lives of the 17,000 children under 12 years old who are living in situations beyond their control and are unable to enjoy this joyous period. Let’s make even the simplest of Christmas wishes come true this year. Anyone wishing to donate may do so by either simply adding your donation into the SVDP Poor Box or if you wish, by using a Christmas Appeal envelope from the pocket in the church trolley and inserting it into the Poor Box. Please do not send to SVDP, South Brisbane.
And the total profit including $60 donations from the Bunnings’
Brendale Sausage Sizzle on Sun 19th November totalled
$1350.48.

This Sunday, the Church starts a new liturgical year – Year B - and the
start of the Season of Advent – from the Latin word ‘adventus’ meaning
‘arrival’ or ‘coming’. It refers not just to Christ’s birth but also to His
coming into our lives through grace and the Eucharist, and to His final
coming at the end of time. The book, “Break Open The Word” that our
readers use to prepare the readings each Sunday, says “As the season
progresses, the challenging images of the end times yield to those of
fruitfulness, healing and promise. It is a season of encouragement and
invitation”. The colour violet or purple is used during Advent as a sign of
penance, sacrifice and preparation. To help us focus on our preparations,
there is a wreath in the sanctuary, containing four candles, one for each
week of Advent, also symbolizing penance, preparation and sacrifice.
There is one pink candle, which is lit on the Third Sunday of the season,
indicating the half way mark of our preparations. The light of the candles
represents Jesus “who entered the world to disperse the darkness of evil
and show us the way of righteousness. The progression of lighting candles
shows our increasing readiness to meet our Lord”. (Fr. William Saunders,
catholiceducation.org). Just as in these next four weeks a lot of preparation
will go into making Christmas a special family time, so should there be
preparation for our spiritual life in welcoming and celebrating Jesus’
coming. A prayer from loyolapress.com: God of love, Your son, Jesus, is
your greatest gift to us. He is a sign of your love. Help us walk in that love
during the weeks of Advent, as we wait and prepare for His coming. We
pray in the name of Jesus, our Saviour. Amen.
