All Saints

Todos los Fieles
All Souls
From Father Phil
A s we approach the end of October and the beginning of November the young ones think of Halloween and treats. Those of us a little older think of All Saints and All Souls Day.
We reflect on our family members that are no longer present with us. We look to this time of year to make ourselves ready for God’s presence and we open our hearts and ears to hear what He is asking each of us to do.
Readings at this time of the year ask us, as a society and church, to go out of our way to open our hearts and homes. “I was a stranger and you welcomed me”, can be overlooked at times.
I am very proud to say that our Church and our city seem to “welcome” people with open arms. The Spirit of the Lord at work in our lives prompts us to connect with people of different backgrounds, as well as those who are like ourselves. You all make it possible for us to welcome people to St. Theresa through your generous stewardship contributions.
From a Catholic perspective, stewardship is the grateful re-sponse of a Christian disciple who recognizes and receives God’s gifts and shares these gifts in love of God and neighbor. It is amazing how God has abundantly given to us and we are asked to share our time, talent, and treasure in service to God and others.
I hope in the next few weeks you will have time to prayerfully determine if you can increase your stewardship level. Please take this opportunity to help us move forward in our overall mission. I personally want to thank you for your continued support of all we do here at St. Theresa.
In true appreciation,
Fr. Phil Lloyd

He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning,
waiting or pain. -Revelations 21:4
He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning,
waiting or pain. -Revelations 21:4
Put even more simply, a saint is a witness to the love that God has for each of us and whose witness should be emulated by the faithful. A saint has lived the virtues of faith, hope, and charity in such a profound way that others are brought to Christ through their witness, (Jeannine Marino, JCL).
"THUS HE GAVE THE COMMANDMENT TO ALL HIS DIS-
CIPLES TO IMITATE THE PERFECTION OF THE FATHER
AND HE SENDS UPON ALL THE
HOLY SPIRIT, WHO MIGHT INSPIRE THEM FROM WITH-
IN TO LOVE GOD WITH THEIR WHOLE HEART AND TO
LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS
HE HIMSELF LOVED THEM. . ."
-Pope John Paul II, Divinus Perfectionis Magister
S aint John Paul II provides us with a theologically rich description of the saints. A saint is a member of the Church whose life was imbued with
a love of God and neighbor; who is united with God in heaven; who is an intercessory to God on our behalf; and who is worthy of public and universal veneration.
The Book of the Names of the Dead
C hristian communities all over the world remember the names of their deceased, in pray-ers of intercession and on anniversaries. The names of those who are called saints are chanted in litany as we approach Baptism and other central moments in the life of the Church. During the month of November, from All Saints' Day until Thanksgiving, many
parishes give a place of special honor in their church to the book containing the names of the dead. Parishioners may write the names of those they wish to remember in this special book, which will be located near the altar at every Sunday and weekday Mass during November.
"Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them".
Our parish is a member of The Christian Community Service Center (CCSC), a community-based non-profit organization serving the inner city Houston community. CCSC incorporated in 1980 and since that time has grown to encompass a coalition of 42 churches united in service.
With the help of over 2,700 volunteers, CCSC currently offers services through the following outreach programs: Emergency Services-Central, Emergency Services-Southwest, JobNet, Martha’s Way, Jingle Bell Express, Back To School, the Louise J. Moran Vision Care Pro-gram and the Sunshine Resale Shop.
Check their website and Facebook page for more information and to find out about current volunteer opportunities: www.ccschouston.org and “CCSC - Christian Community Service Center” on Facebook.

SUMMARY
Please consider reaching deep into your heart to make a commitment of whatever amount you can give to help pay for our church and school construction, a pro-ject which is truly worthy of God’s glory and honor.
Increasing an existing pledge: If you have already made a pledge you can, at any time, increase that pledge by contacting Enrique Benitez, Director of Development 713-869-3783 (ext. 315). If you are new to the par-ish, please contact Enrique or Fr. Phil 713-869-3783, (ext. 312) if you would like more information. Thank you again for your prayers and gifts towards this major improvement to our parish.
After over a year of planning and fundraising the construction phase of our Capital Campaign has finally begun. To all that gave so generously: Thank You! Your gifts have helped us raise $7.85 million towards our goal of $12.1 million. Topping the $7 million mark gave us the confidence to commence construction, but we still need to continue fundraising to avoid or minimize undertaking long-term debt.
GIVING TO THE CAMPAIGN
We need your help! No amount is too small! And, it’s never too late to make a pledge! Here is how easy it can be:
Pledges for any amount can be made and paid over three to five years on a monthly period. E.g., $10 per week paid over three years would be a gift of $1,560; $25 per week for 3 years would be $3,900.
Are you interested in underwriting a pew? We are asking for a pledge of $10,000 per pew—twenty pews have already been underwritten.
Non-cash donations of stocks, bonds and real estate can also be given. You might also want to consider making a legacy gift when making your estate plans. (Please consult with your finan-cial advisor.)
Pledges can be set up and/or donations made by going to the church website www.sttheresa.cc and selecting DONATE under the CAPITAL CAMPAIGN tab.
