  • All Saints’ and All Souls’ ‘In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go

to prepare a place for you?’ Today and tomorrow we enter that part of the Christian Mystery which we call in the creed, the Communion of Saints. Towards the end of the Apostles’ Creed we say: “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

All Souls’ Eucharist at Queenscliffe Cemetery (a moment to remember those who have died,

especially in the last year) You Can’t miss it! As in recent years, we will gather under a large white marquee erected by the Geelong Cemeteries Trust at Queensliffe Cemetery (cnr of Point Lonsdale Rd and Jordan Rd, Point Lonsdale). Chairs provided. 11.00am Gather 11.15am Holy Communion 12noon Tea and Coffee served (compliments of Geelong Cemetery Trust) Please invite others who might like a sacred moment in the presence of God to remember friends and loved ones who have died. Christ’s descent into hell. Church of the Holy Saviour in Chora in Turkey was constructed as part of a monastery complex in the fourth century during the Byzantine era.

  • Preparing to gather again Andrew Behan, who faithfully tends the lawns and gardens at St James, made a special effort to make the place beautiful when the news came that we could physically meet again for worship. We know the place is loved, but it is important that it looks loved, and that only happens through ‘love in action’; expending time and effort and at times, a bit of sweat. Thank you very much

Andrew, it was a lovely ‘welcome back’ to church.

Worship in November 2020 Under the COVID-19 guidelines for religious gatherings in in Regional Victoria our best option for Sunday worship is to gather in the St James’ Gill Hall Garden where 50 can gather in a sitting. This is also the best setting for our Annual Parish Meeting: 11.00am Sunday 29 November, following the 10.00am Eucharist because those who want attend can attend without having to count heads for fear of breaching the rules.

Other times for Prayer and Worship in St James’ Church • 10.00am Wed Eucharist (in St James church & livestreamed)

    • 5.45pm Fri Healing Eucharist (in St James church & livestreamed)

    • Morning and Evening Prayer (in St James church & on Zoom)

    • Meditation (in St James church & on Zoom).

For times and more details about on-line participation in prayer and worship, go you our web page: www.queensclifflonsdaleanglican.org or phone me, Fr Peter, on 0438 231 118

  • New Residents at St George’s We already knew the large elm tree near St George’s Old School Hall was abuzz with wildlife with a long-standing hive of native bees, crimson rosellas, and lorikeets, but the latest arrival has been an added delight! First arrived the fairy door, and then, lo and behold, a fairy took up residence! It is truly a mystery, but watch this spot for further developments.

Partnership with the Geelong Historical Museum Around the time COVID 19 hit earlier in the year, and our usual income streams: our hospitality ministry via St James House of Prayer and residential retreats, our fund raising efforts and live giving through the plate were drying up, we were approached by the Queenscliff Historical Museum to see if we would help with storage of museum items while the new Hub is being built over the next year. Parish Council decided to lease half of Gill Hall to them for this purpose, leaving the other half for parish and community use. This will help offset some of our lost income at a time when it is not at all clear when we will be able to use the hall again, both for our

own gatherings and for use by the wider community. By unforeseen and alternative ways, we are learning that God, in his providential love for God’s Church and through the thoughtfulness of others, does provide!

From the Parish History Room This photo of St James’ dates from 1928 and shows it 13 years after construction (and a very sandy Albert Street). As some long-standing parishioners may recall, before it was bricked in 1982, the weatherboard church was painted. But as shown here, in its early days, it was treated with an oil finish. Apparently when the oiling was redone it created a very off-putting and discouraging stink for the worshippers! The brick cladding was a major undertaking but managed to rather annoy Miles Lewis, one of Australia's most notable Architectural historians. In his book “Victorian Churches” he writes of St James: “A once delightful timber church……. defaced by the addition of

Sandy and Steve Lee from the Geelong Historical Museum with some of the museum's exhibits now in storage in Gill Hall.

  • bichrome brick cladding”. Opinions may vary, but we can say, after 105 years since moving to Albert Street from The Springs, that when it comes to St James, there are still many ‘Lovers of the Place’. Almighty God, You have built your Church on the foundation of apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ himself as the chief cornerstone. We pray that we may reveal your love and mercy, and being joined in unity of spirit, may grow into a holy temple, acceptable to you; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

Our Prayers this Week Prayer of the week God our Father, whose will it is to bring all things to order and unity in our Lord Jesus Christ: may all the peoples of the world, now divided and torn apart by sin, be brought together under his sovereign rule of love: through Jesus Christ our Lord.
