The Year of Saint Luke 08.05.16.
Ascension of the Lord 7th Sunday of Eastertide
(Sunday Readings: of year C ::: Weekdays of year 1 ::: Breviary: Week 3)
Scripture: Acts 1: 1 – 11.
Psalm 46.
R/. God goes up with shouts of joy;
the Lord goes up with trumpet blast!
All peoples, clap your hands,
cry to God with shouts of joy!
For the Lord, the Most High, we must fear,
great king over all the earth.
God goes up with shouts of joy;
the Lord goes up with trumpet blast.
Sing praise for God, sing praise,
sing praise to our king, sing praise.
God is king of all the earth.
Sing praise with all your skill.
God is king over the nations;
God reigns on his holy throne.
Ephesians 1: 17 – 23.
Luke 24: 46 – 53
Intercession : Lord in your mercy.
Response : Hear our prayer.
A farmer was milking his cow. He was just
starting to get a good rhythm going when a bug
flew into the barn and started circling his head.
Suddenly, the bug flew into the cow’s ear. The
farmer didn’t think much about it, until the bug
squirted out into his bucket. It went in one ear
and out the udder.
************
A blonde walks into a barber’s with headphones
on. She tells the barber what cut she wants, but
that he has to cut around her head-phones. The
barber looks a little puzzled but agrees. So he
starts cutting the best he can but accidentally he
knocks the headphones off. Within a few
seconds the girl dies. Very startled, the man
picks up the headphones and hears, ‘Breathe in,
breathe out.’
***************
A man goes into a bar. As he waits to get served,
a regular sitting next to him calls out, ‘I’ll have
another waterloo.’ The barman gives the regular
a tall, ice-cold drink and asks the first man what
he would like. The thirsty man points to the man
next to him and says, ‘I guess I’ll have what he’s
having, a waterloo.’ So the barman brings the
newcomer a tall, ice-cold drink. The man takes a
long deep drink and calls out, ‘HEY! This isn’t
any good, it tastes just like water!’ The regular
sitting next to him says, ‘it is water. That’s all I
drink.’ He turns to the bartender and says,
‘Right, Lou?’

Alice – wishes to thank all who attended and donated to
the last social in April. The last minute change of date did
not help the attendance but a good night was had by all
and £174 raised, which because of the foregoing will help
towards maintenance of the church grounds. Another
event will be held for Annui House later in the year.
Belarusian children have been close in our thoughts

on Saturday 21st May to help give them a better quality of
life. Further details to follow but tickets are available at
£3.50 from Pam, Frances, Joe and Marcia Doyle via St.
Patricks.
This month, we are thinking particularly about the people
who clean the church and the people who maintain the
church. Their hard work means that our church is a
beautiful and safe place in which to worship God, to meet
with old friends and make new friends. Thank you very
much Folks.
There will be a meeting of the Natters Group on
Thursday, 12th May at 2pm. We enjoy tea, cake biscuits

Adoration at 7pm on Wednesday
Prayer to Mary, woman of listening
Mary, woman of listening, open our ears; grant us to
know how to listen to the word of your Son Jesus among the thousands of words of this world; grant that we may
listen to the reality in which we live, to every person we
encounter, especially those who are poor, in need, in hardship.
Mary, woman of decision, illuminate our mind and our
heart, so that we may obey, unhesitating, the word of your Son Jesus; give us the courage to decide, not to let
ourselves be dragged along, letting others direct our life.
Mary, woman of action, obtain that our hands and feet
move “with haste” toward others, to bring them the charity and love of your Son Jesus, to bring the light of the
Gospel to the world, as you did.
Amen. Pope Francis – May 2013.
