The Year of Saint Luke 22.05.16.
Trinity Sunday (Sunday Readings: of year C ::: Weekdays of year 11 ::: Breviary: Week iv)
Scripture: Proverbs 8: 22 – 31.
Psalm 8. R/. How great is your name, O Lord our God,
through all the earth.
When I see the heavens, the work of your hands,
the moon and the stars which you arranged,
what is man that you should keep him in mind,
mortal man that you care for him?
Yet you have made him little less than a god;
with glory and honour you crowned him,
gave him power over the works of your hand,
put all things under his feet.
All of them, sheep and cattle,
yes, even the savage beasts,
birds of the air, and fish
that make their way through the waters.
Romans 5: 1 – 5.
John 16: 12 – 15. .
Intercession : We pray:
Response : Praise to you most Holy Trinity
An embarrassed woman approached the priest after a
church service. ‘I hope you didn’t take it personally,
Reverend, when my husband walked out during your
sermon.’ ‘I did find it rather disconcerting,’ the vicar
replied. ‘It’s not a reflection on you,’ insisted the
churchgoer. ‘He has been walking in his sleep ever
since he was a child.’

Three men wanted to attend the Olympic Games but
they had no tickets to the events. As they stood
around watching, they noticed that the participants in
the games all went in at a certain gate and that many
were carrying sports gear for their event. The three
began to get creative and as they looked around, the
first spotted some electrical conduit left over from
construction work. He picked up a length of this pipe,
walked up to the gate, said ‘Pole vault’ and they
waved him in. The second guy discovered a manhole
cover, picked it up, walked up to the gate, said
‘Discus’ and they waved him in. The third guy
looked for some time before he spotted a roll of
barbed wire. He picked this up, threw it on his
shoulder, walked up to the gate and announced,
‘Fencing.’
**********
An atheist was climbing up a rock face and realised he
was in danger of falling. He clutched a bush, but
knew that it was only a matter of time before he
would have to let go. He shouted at the top of his
voice: ‘Please help me. Is anyone there?’
A voice responded, “Let go. This is God. I will catch
you.”
There was a long pause and then the man said,
“Excuse me. Is anyone else there, please?.
***********
A lady, whose husband had been a waiter at a large
restaurant, attended a séance after his death. She
suddenly felt a message coming through from the
other side. “Jack, Jack, is that you?” she shouted.
“Speak to me. Come to me, Jack.”
The voice came back: “I can’t, it’s not my table,”

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION
The Corpus Christi Procession in Bute Park has unfortunately had to be cancelled, although a Centenary Corpus Christi Mass will take place later in the year.
However on Sunday 29th May at 3:00pm, by kind permission of the Sisters of Nazareth, a Corpus Christi Procession will be held in the gardens at the front of Nazareth House. Although a separate event in the light of the above cancellation this will be open to all. There is limited parking at Nazareth House, but some parking is possible on North Road, adjacent to Bute Park.

SILENCE As priests, deacons and sisters working within the parish we are faced
with a pull from two sides: we regularly hear from one group of
parishioners that they find the noise of chatter before Mass distracting
and even damaging to their spiritual growth. Some people have left the
parish stating those reasons. If we talk about silence, we hear from (or
are gossiped about by) parishioners as making the church “unfriendly.”
There’s no pleasing everybody, and there’s some truth in both
perspectives (except gossip, which is toxic). So how can we encourage
what Christ prayed for at the Last Supper, unity among his disciples?
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and to prayer (Acts 2:42) I know that many people find silence “empty” and uncomfortable. Let me say
a word about that. In silence we meet our deeper selves — our consciences,
our fears, our hopes, the Word of God within us — and most human beings
flee from that encounter. But there’s an unnecessary degree of discomfort
because we don’t know anything that can make silence useful for our spiritual
growth. So here are a few things to do with five minutes before Mass:
Read — or reread — the Scriptures for the Mass that’s about to begin.
Listen for the voice of God in what you read; mull over any word or
phrase that strikes you.
Think back over the week: Ask God to uncover for you where you succeeded in being His voice, His hands, toward others over the past
week.
Ask God to uncover for you some place where you’re blind to His will, so that you can pray and work on changing that.
Pay attention to your breathing, as a way of gently putting aside the
tensions and worries of the past and future, so that you can be fully attentive to what is about to take place.
Pray that someone unknown to you in the congregation will be helped
through a great struggle or moment of crisis by your prayer.

Congratulations to Monsignor Finbar O’Leary who
celebrates the 50th Year of his ordination on Friday 3rd
June 2016. He is now the Parish Priest in Bandon, County
Cork where his Mass will be celebrated. All are welcome.
He served this community in Newport, Cwmbran and
South Wales for years but much of his time was spent
living and ministering to the disadvantaged in Ecuador,
South America. Please remember him in your prayers.
This month, we are thinking particularly about the people
who clean the church and the people who maintain the
church. Their hard work means that our church is a
beautiful and safe place in which to worship God, to meet
with old friends and make new friends. Thank you very
much Folks.
There will be a meeting of the Natter's Group on
Thursday, 26th May. We will meet at 1.30pm to say the
rosary, followed by an afternoon of tea, cakes, biscuits and
friendly conversation. Everyone is welcome to join us.
It was good to see so many of our friends from our
companion churches at the concert on Saturday at the
Christchurch Centre on Malpas Road. Our thanks go to all
the people who made the afternoon possible.
Please can you return your red mission boxes for counting
to Sue Thomas.
