Historical Fiction

A genre of fiction that is set in the past & involves real people, places or significant events from history.

Description:

Science Fiction Description:This genre is about things that could happen in real life but in the future. It contains things that could only happen with advanced technology.

Tall TalesDescription: Tall tales are folktales with unbelievable exaggeration told as if it were true and meant to be humorous. They sometimes teach us lesson.

FablesDescription:

“The Tortoise and The Hare” & “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” are both very popular fables that originated from 1668, written by the author Aesop.

Fables commonly share the characteristic of anthropomorphic- (animals having qualities of humans like voice) animals or creatures that at the end, teach a moral or lesson.

FantasyDescription:The Fantasy genre consists of imaginary characters and locations. And often uses magical elements like creatures, objects, plot, setting etc. “Harry Potter” & “The Hobbit” are

great examples of fantasy since these characters are all fictional & the the main plot has to do with magic.

Legend Description: A legend is a folktale that has some connection with a real, historical dream or event combining factual or fictional events with exaggerations, NOT humor. “Robin Hood” a

classical story.

Fairy Tales Description:A fairytale is a children’s story about magical imaginary beings, talking animals, and imaginary lands. Almost all have happy endings.

MythsMyths are folk tales that explain something about the world such as frightening or mysterious forces or how something came to be.
