o The insurance papers for signs of previous accidents and claims

o If the engine number and chassis number match in the registration papers

o Air, fuel, transmission and oil filters - If they look clean, you'd know the car is well maintained

o Brakes - Any vibration or noise from the brake pedals could mean that rotors need replacement

o All tyres should be worn evenly, match and be aligned. If not, get them changed!

get it insured to your name

o The policy has to be transferred from the previous owner to your name using photocopies of Forms 29/30 to you simultaneously with the RC name transfer.

o Assuming that this isn't necessary, many sellers/buyers ignore this procedure. In such cases, the insurance is nullified and no claims can be made in the future!

o If the previous owner doesn't own a policy, then without a question of choice, get a policy to your name!

o This can be done once the RC is transferred to your name. It's as easy as buying or renewing a policy and can be done easily with the help of Coverfox.com. A policy is issued after a quick inspection of the vehicle!

You will need the policy in your name

o Get a fresh policy of your choice issued in your name!

o This could be the best option as it leaves you the choice of selecting the company and pricing that you are comfortable with. You do not have to worry about carrying forward any issues on the previous policy and can even negotiate for a better price on the car with the seller since you are getting your own insurance!

or even yet...

step fourRead all about insuring your used car, here: https://www.coverfox.com/articles/car-insurance/buying-a-second-hand-car/

transfer no claim bonus

Read all about insuring your used car, here: https://www.coverfox.com/articles/car-insurance/buying-a-second-hand-car/

The No Claims Bonus discount is attached to the insurer and not the policy

o If previous owner has NCB and he is transferring the policy to you, the discount will not be carried over to you

o If you have accumulated NCB from your last car, with the help of a reserving letter from the previous insurer, you can transfer on to the new car

o If your NCB amount is greater than the seller's, you will not get a refund

o So, that's another reason to get a fresh policy!
