The Alliance for Jewish Theatre (AJT) is pleased to announce Andy White as keynote speaker for the AJT annual conference, as theatre-makers from around the world will converge on October 22-25, 2017, in Boston, MA. Mr. White is one of the founding members of the ground-breaking Tony Award-winning Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago, along with David Schwimmer, Eva Barr, David Catlin, Joy Gregory, and David Kersnar. Until recently, Mr. White was the former Artistic Director of Lookingglass. He now has taken on the role of Director of Connectivity and Engagement. “Andy is the ideal Jewish theatre-maker in these challenging times to talk to the need for collaboration,” says David Chack, executive
director of the AJT. “He juggles the roles of producing, playwriting, directing, and acting and his work includes directing the recent productions of Aaron Posner’s LIFE SUCKS, THE LAST ACT OF LILKA KADISON a Holocaust related play; and ONE BLOOD (wrote and directed) about Goodman, Schwerner, and Chaney the activists (two Jewish and one African-American) who were killed by the Ku Klux Klan. And his new initiative at Lookingglass on Connectivity is particularly important for what we do at AJT. We are honored to have him present to theatre makers from across North American at our annual conference and excited to be inspired by his experiences and stories.” The Alliance for Jewish Theatre’s conference theme is COL-LAB-ORATION, in partnership with Jewish Arts Collaborative of Boston. The conference, which attracts producers, directors, playwrights, and performers, includes panel discussions, workshops, performer showcases, networking and much more including presenting the 2017 Theodore Bikel Award for Excellence in Theatre to Robert Brustein, eminent theatre critic, author, producer, playwright, educator and founder of both Yale Repertory Theatre and the American Repertory Theatre at Harvard.
