Penang Bridge International Marathon is back again this year, and we are proud to announce
that our title sponsor this year is Allianz, one of the worlds leading insurance company. The
official launch and announcement was made today 18th
of August at the Boulevard Hotel, KualaLumpur.
Allianz offers a comprehensive and integrated range of general, life insurances and investment
solutions by combining a local understanding with their global outlook.
An estimated number of 30,000 local and international marathon enthusiasts will be floodingMalaysias longest and busiest bridge, the iconic Penang Bridge this year on the 20th November
2011 for this unique and unforgettable run.
During the early days in 1984, the marathon was to run in town, not across the bridge. After the
completion of Penang Bridge in 1985, the race then shifted to run across the Penang Bridge
and since then the annual Penang Bridge International Marathon has become Penangs
signature event which brings runners from all over the world, be it amateur or professional to
our beautiful island. The marathon is truly unique as is held after midnight and it is the only timeof the year where the bridge is completely closed from traffic. Runners will have a chance to
experience the beautiful sights of Penang Island safely throughout the routes and on the bridge
during the break of dawn.
The public especially tourist agents, airline services and hoteliers are reminded that the bridge
will be completely closed from 1.00am to 10.00am on the 20th November.
The categories for the run this year are a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10k marathon and a
fun run opened to those above the age of 13. Full marathon category is opened to men and
women above the age of 18 with a choice of open or veteran category. For half marathon, it is
opened to men and women above the age of 18; while 10k marathon is divided into open (aged
18 and above) and junior (aged 13 and above) categories. The full marathon will be flagged off
at 2.00 am.
Full, half and 10k marathons are competitive and will be timed. For competitive runs, running
