Following Master Plan for Byrd ParkBMP’s:2007 – Installed three stormwater swales w/inlet outfall

($46,000.00). Treemendous, MD spent $3,000 for trees and bushes to plant along swales.

2011 - Site visit w/ engineer determined use of rooftop and non-rooftop disconnects with submerged gravel wetlands would resolve majority of stormwater issues. Prepared plans $4500.00. May 2011 - Bid out two submerged gravel wetlands Program Open Space funding of $43,000.00, not sufficient for both structures. Town proceeded with Wetland “A” adjacent to concession stand/bathroom.

Wetland “A” was the first submerged gravel wetland in Worcester County and the first on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Wetland “A” encompasses approx. 1,300 sq. ft. and drains 1.75 acres.

In 2012, Submerged Gravel Wetland “B” was accomplished with funding from the Chesapeake Bay Trust totaling $25,000.

Approximately 1,200 sq. ft. and drains 2.75 acres.Educational signage was installed. Estimated pollutant removal efficiencies:

The BMP’s chosen work well for sites low relief and wetland receives overland stormwater runoff and subsurface flow is distributed to the bottom of the submerged gravel wetland with aid of perforated underdrains, and rises to surface allowing water to pond within the submerged gravel wetland.
