AmaXIng Challenge: Step It Up 5K A HUGE SUCCESS!

After being spattered with paint, runners and guests chowed down on delicious food and participated in a silent auction all of which were donations from generous local restaurants and Iowa City vendors.

Sigma could not be more proud of the results of the event. With over 120 runners and more than 700 donors, we were able to raise $18,506 for our National philanthropy, Autism Speaks! We couldn't have had such a huge success without the help of major sponsors including Running Wild and Title Kickboxing; family and friends; and the dedication from our sisters.

On May 4th, Sigma held our very first AmaXIng Challenge: Step It Up 5K. Despite the unusual spring weather, over 120 runners from all over the Iowa City area came to support our 5K. The theme of the day was a "Paint Run" in which runners were sprayed with blue, yellow, and pink paint by Sigma sisters at each kilometer mark.

Chapter President, Caitlin Harris, and Membership VP, Taylor Best, traveled across the nation to Alpha Xi Deltaʼs 50th National Convention in San Francisco, California this July. They had such a great time meeting fellow sisters from chapters all over the country, learning new information they are excited to take back to the chapter, and even taking a ferry under the Golden Gate Bridge!

Proud to be an Alpha Xi!

Sigma is so proud to announce that at Convention, we won the 2013 AmaXIng Challenge: Step It Up Award for our Step It Up 5K held this spring; the prestigious Rose Award for Outstanding Chapter Improvement; and Kristie Leeman, our chapter advisor, was honored with the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation 2013 Winnafred Corwin Robinson Award, recognizing the advisor of the chapter showing greatest improvement in the biennium in the Midwest Territory!

Sigma Chapter members and alumnae got to share their favorite stories and members at the Welcome Banquet!

Proud to be an Alpha Xi!

Congratulations to recent graduate and Sigma member, Jaclyn Dziepak! Jaclyn will be traveling as one of Alpha Xi Delta’s Educational Leadership Consultants for the 2013-2014 year! She will be visiting AXiD chapters, assisting with recruitment, and general sorority business. We know Jaclyn will represent Sigma wonderfully. Safe travels, Jaclyn!

Sigma women teamed up with the men of Phi Kappa Psi this spring for Fraternity & Sorority Life’s annual Greek Week. We came in first place during the week’s “Greek Olympics,” winning the tug-of-war competition and the Chariot races. During Follies, the dance competition, we received an award for having best banner. AXiD and Phi Psi enjoyed participating in Greek Week’s Glow in the Dark 5K, in which we came in 2nd place! Our partnership with Phi Psi snagged us third place overall for Greek Week!

Mom’s Day

“More than diamonds and pearls, mom’s love their ΑΞΔ girls”.

Mom’s Day was a great time had by all and even more, a big success! Moms, sisters, and daughters came together on March 2nd at the Sheraton Hotel for a delicious lunch, a silent auction, and a mother/daughter slideshow. All the women of Sigma worked together to make Mom’s Day a success. In total, we had over 40 donated baskets, for the silent auction and sold over 500 raffle tickets. The Sigma chapter was able to raise a grand total of $5,798.00! All proceeds went to chapter funding.

Founder’s Day

On Saturday, April 13th, the Sigma Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta hosted a brunch in honor of Founder’s Day. The day consisted of a brunch, house tours, mingling, and reminiscing, and ended with a beautiful ceremony to celebrate the founders of Alpha Xi Delta. We were also excited to recognize, alumna and member, Cathy Schiele, with the Order of the Rose, an honorable title for being part of Alpha Xi Delta for fifty years!

Public Relations throughout the spring During the beginning of May, sisters came together to prepare and deliver finals baskets for graduating high school seniors from various Iowa and Illinois high schools. Multiple women from the Sigma chapter also visited the Drake Relays, located in Des Moines, Iowa, at the end of April. We passed out flyers advertising our philanthropy, the Step It Up 5K event, and encouraged many graduating high school seniors planning on attending the University of Iowa next fall to go Greek!
